We're at the point where Trump can say any damn thing he wants and people believe it. This is why Republicans have an advantage. Democrats are always arguing an inconvenient truth against Republican's fear mongering.
So when I say "democracy doesn't work" I really mean "as is". We need not only fundamental changes in the core mechanics of the government but also the mindset of society.
And fuck anyone who doesn't take this seriously! Have people not been keeping up with the supreme court? They gave Trump a get out of jail free card for anything as long as he's president! We have a man who forcefully tried to overthrow the results of an election now in control of the government with Republicans controlling the house and senate! We have a convicted rapist and felon for president. We're in an extremely sick society. What about the environment? What about the Ukraine? Hell, what about Democracy here? When Trump tells Christian voters "you won't have to vote anymore" if he's elected, and he was, that should concern you. How dare you call me a snowflake for being informed! How dare you call me a snowflake for actively making the world a better place. The bottom line is you just can't make people care. Isaac Asimov who died in 1992?

In Heinlein's Starship Troopers (the novel, not the abomination of a movie), he envisioned a society where voting was restricted to those people who had served at least two years of federal service. This service was usually, but not exclusively, military service. The idea was that people who had voluntarily served the State would be more likely to vote for the betterment of the State.
This seems to make more sense than voting by IQ scores or handing the reins of power to oligarchs and hoping for the best.

Oh, I dunno if he actually has to read them. With his Lex Luthor-level IQ, he could probably get them directly into his big brain via osmosis.

How Scotland is welcoming Trump. 🥶
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

^Christ on a bike, you people are so fussy about your presidents. You're always picking on Trump, but you never bring up all those other presidents with 34 felony convictions for fraud and who have been found liable for sex crimes. What about...umm...gimme a minute. There was - wait, no, not him.
I'll get back to you.

US-funded contraceptives for poor nations to be burned in France
U.S.-funded contraceptives worth nearly $10 million are being sent to France from Belgium to be incinerated, after Washington rejected offers from the United Nations and family planning organisations to buy or ship the supplies to poor nations, two sources told Reuters.
A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department confirmed to Reuters on Wednesday that a decision had been taken to destroy the stock.
They comprise contraceptive implants and pills as well as intrauterine devices to help prevent unwanted pregnancies, according to seven sources and a screengrab shared by an eighth source confirming the planned destruction.
The U.S. government will spend $167,000 to incinerate the stocks at a facility in France that handles medical waste, the U.S. State Department confirmed.
Sarah Shaw, Associate Director of Advocacy at MSI Reproductive Choices, told Reuters the non-profit organisation had volunteered to pay for the supplies to be repackaged without USAID branding and shipped to countries in need, but the offer was declined by the U.S. government.
"This is clearly not about saving money. It feels more like an ideological assault on reproductive rights, and one that is already harming women."
She added that many countries in sub-Saharan Africa had relied on USAID for access to contraception and that the aid cuts would lead to a rise in unsafe abortions.
