It shouldn't? Even if this candidate is a clear example of exactly why the process is fucked up? Agree to disagree?, lol. Definitely should have more education with regards to how our process works. Perhaps even make the process simpler, eliminate these little areas and loopholes.

Like I said before, by all means use it as an example of the system being fucked up, but don't make this issue about the candidate themselves. Any candidate can do this; that is the point that needs the spotlight.

The problem here isn't that Ron Paul is gaming the system, it is that the system can be gamed in the first place. You don't solve anything by stopping Ron Paul from gaming the system, since other people can still do it. You do solve the problem if you can prevent any candidate from ever doing this again.

I don't think we're going to find common ground here T, you appear to be criticizing the act but shielding the one engaging in it.

Any candidate can do this, which one is? Undecided

Just because one is LEGALLY able to do something, does not necessarily mean they SHOULD do it.

what if it was a legal loophole that you could kill the other politicians who compete against you? would you support ron Paul doing it just because it is legal, and then blame it on the system.

What he is doing is wrong. What the Republicans set up for their voting system is wrong.

You claim the system is absolutely wrong, yet fully support Paul for doing what he did.

...so much for principles.

tbh, you should all be glad that Paul is doing this, he's a 6/4 dog vs Obama and 20% of moderate and far right Republicans say they'd vote Obama if Paul gets the GOP nomination.

I honestly couldn't care less which of those two would win. I don't like to see our process subverted, all nice and official like...completely within the rules set out, just so this or that party (that I may disagree with)doesn't get any more power.

Glad my ass, disappointed.

I assume this is out of being jaded or simply not caring about politics whatsoever? I have a hard time seeing how someone could not have a choice between Paul and Obama, even if only on social issues.

If the choice is between eating horseshit or bullshit, I think I'll just pass and wait for the next meal. I don't operate on "the lesser of two evils" when it comes to things like this. I afford myself at least this one area (politics) as a playground for hopelessly optimistic and completely unjustified idealism.

Fair enough. I used to operate that way myself.

How am I shielding the one doing it? I was the person who posted the video in the first place. I've already said that what Paul is doing is unfair; my beef was with the people who were saying it was somehow "dishonest", despite the fact that he's well within the rules to do what he is doing, and has publicly told everyone what he is doing. That doesn't suggest dishonesty to me; it suggests that he knows the system is unfair, and since he's trying to win, he's going to use the system to his advantage.

There is no point in focusing on the candidate who is doing this, because he's already done it, and you can't go and change that (nor can you implement rules that bar one candidate from doing something). What you can do (and what people should do) is say "look at what Ron Paul is doing...how is he able to do that?...can we stop this from happening in the future?" It is the system that needs to change, not the candidates.

In what way am I fully supporting Ron Paul in what he did? Me supporting his right to do it (since it's technically not against the rules) in no way means I support him actually doing it.

RE: Ron Paul might have the most delegates?
When you say things like "this shouldn't be an issue about a candidate themselves". Why not? I think it's an issue about a flaw in the system and a candidate exploiting that flaw. It's a scumbag move, and he's not supposed to be a scumbag right?

I can't say something that would boil down to "you shouldn't make an issue out of someone doing this, but you should make an issue out of someone being able to do this". That's me, personally, which is why I figured we wouldn't find common ground.
