If opinions were up to vote then we had no business bitch slapping Hitler because the Germans voted him into power.
There are lots of popular opinions. But any opinion that is popular that treats a fellow human as a sub species is an opinion worthy of scorn.
We are all the same species and our species has never been monochromatic and never will be. There is no credible justification for banning gay marriage, only the bullshit justification of "they might give me cooties".

Again, why are you the one who gets to decide what marriage should be?
Quote:Oh, please forgive me, if I lump people together, as you do. Once a person does not support gay marriage, they are considered to be bigots of the extreme.
As you consider me a bigot by whatever standards you have to call someone a bigot, I consider those who support this ridiculous movement to undermine the very fabrics of society as people who oppose society.
Counter-culture activists, anarchists and nihilists, these are the people who are able to support such things.
I'm fairly certain that this won't end here. The legalisation of marriage for homosexuals will bring tons of other things into question.
You don't care, because you obviously don't care about much, other than homosexuals, perhaps.
I consider you a bigot for more than just your stance on gay marriage. For example, you say that homosexuals wanting equality is ridiculous.
Once again, I ask how will gay people getting married undermine society? An extension to the laws on marriage won't cause the collapse of civilisation.

This opens up a whole can of worms in terms of how far the state should intervene in a parent's raising of their child...
According to Christian fundamentalist (and some not quite so fundamentalist) doctrine gays are supposed to go to hell *note that I don't agree with this doctrine please*. As for the state/parenting problem we're already neck deep in that shit.
I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise

Marriage was brought into existence by people of my way of thinking.
Circumstances have changes, marriage has evolved from a polygamy to monogamy, and families got smaller. But the core principle(Husband and Wife, obviously) stayed the same. I'm simply speaking according that core principle. Homosexuals have no relevance to that core principle, as they are not even included into the institution of family. They never were, friend.

Yes, I do. For there is no equality to speak about when it comes to marriage.
Quote:Once again, I ask how will gay people getting married undermine society? An extension to the laws on marriage won't cause the collapse of civilisation.
Once again, I'm saying this: extending marriage to homosexuals is not an extension. It's simply re-defining marriage, re-creating it from the start.
It's like tearing down a building and building another, less stable one on the top of it.
Marriage is a fixed institiution at the core. There is no way to change or extend this.

Gay marriage, of a sort, existed and was accepted in some places before people with "your way of thinking" came along and told everyone that it's an abomination.
It's quite obvious that there's no reasoning with you, you're just going to keep spouting the same unsubstantiated shit about how gay people will weaken society. One last time, I'm going to ask for any evidence that extending or even re-defining marriage will undermine it or society.

This is an issue that really bugs me with debating religion these days. Fundies, naturally, say their perspective on Christianity is the correct one. This is annoying, but to be expected. But a lot of anti-religious folks of all types seem to sign up to their essentialist view of Christianity, as being the "one true" type of Christianity. This is totally illogical. If Christianity is false, then why do you attempt to define what it "essentially" is, and if you must, why do you define it as a virulent strain of biblical literalism that originated in America in the later 19th century?
OK I know this isn't exactly what you said, but this is something that happens quite a lot around here. I even saw, on this site, an atheist giving a Christian reps for "At least having to balls to stand up for your beliefs unlike the pussy liberal so-called "Christians". I mean, what in the hell kind of attitude is that to have for someone who claims to be the champion of free thought?

Ain't no homos gonna make it to heaven?
Well it's a good damn thing I'm not going there either! Can you imagine an eternity with no one to give you honest feedback about your hair?
Seriously though, this video makes me want to go kiss my smart little ones who don't even believe in heaven. They have a clubhouse. Everyone is allowed, except for this little girl up the street who never shares her gum.

Yeah, where, I wonder. Rome. And even there, I'm sure it was a rarity that was exclusive to rich people in rome.
For thousands of years, marrige has been between man and woman.
I wonder why there are no words in any language that describe the parties of a same-sex marriage.
The same is applicable to other regions. When people think of a marriage, they think of a husband and wife.
Not a husband-husband or wife-wife. It doesn't make sense to anyone.

Society has been founded on the principles of family. A husband, wife and children. Normalizing homosexuality through marriage will allow the institution of the family, marriage and therefore, society, to crumble, in that it makes it accessible to people that are irrelevant to it. People who are actually relevant to it, will see this as a sign that nothing actually is relevant.
For the last time, you do not wish to extend marriage to anyone. You wish to re-define it, as to make it accessible to every damn sexual identity, fetish and whatsoever.
There are certain limits to everything. I think it is time that you people recognize these limits.
But you already do. You just pick those that fit you and those who don't. For example, marriage, to you, has no limit.
Everyone can have children.
Everyone is a minority.
Minorities have the right to re-define things as they see fit, whether it's for the good or the bad.
We do not need chaos in this world, we need more order to everything.

Mehmeh maybe you need to read up on your history, Gay marriage was outlawed December 16, 342 AD by the Christian emperors Constantius II and Constanscam in and said 'no your sick perverted second class filth' or they might as well have and we have been fighting for the right back ever since. So until that point Men were getting married to men and women to women, and that's going back further then it has been illegal.

This is so full of shit, there have been may study s on same sex parenting and the only difference in the kid there the kids with gay parents were list bigoted. and its not redefining marriage is extending the boarders a little. Marriage is a Civil bond between two consenting adults.
What part of that can't you get into your closed minded head, wait a sec none, because you made up your mind and despite all the evidence to the contrary you ignore it.
