[split] Dressing up like a superhero to see a movie?

What I said was loser idiots dress up like their heroes and wear them to see a movie. There's a time and a place for everything I suppose, but dressing up like a child's hero and going to a public event that is not even close to being a designated costume party makes you a bit of loser in my own humble opinion.

Designated costume party? 0.o

* Violet remembers that she went to a chinese new year festival in a japanese geisha costume base, with some modifications for being chinese. Ensured I was among the last ones into the event by always letting people come into the line ahead of me.

Best moment of the whole thing was when the lion dance came in front of me and tilted its head to one side, and I hugged it after a moment's consideration. Wish I had a picture of that now. ^_^

Anyway, I was the only one in a costume at the entire event, and people still enjoyed it. That's how it almost always functions for me... whatever costume I decide to wear often receives me smiles, or reactions in general. I recall going in the Avian Plague to a GLBT meeting (Gay and Lesbian Alliance of Denton), and it was certainly not my first costume I wore to there.

And why not a child's hero? I still enjoy playing with baby toys, if I was into the superhero scene: why not? Being in a superhero costume requires an immense amount of detail into the making of the costume... and when wearing it 'correctly', one needs to have some understanding of the character's personality (so as to effectively roleplay as them). It's a challenge, and it's a lot of fun if one is really excited about the movie they are going to see Big Grin Watching a Batman movie as Batman? Trippy! Tiger

Calling someone an idiot for having a bit of fun seems kinda low to me. Reminds me of semi-recent a thread were I announced my first beer.

On an on-topic note, this is terribly sad. If there has to be a thread about it, why can't it be a thread where people express their sadness? I'm seriously tempted to split this.

Split her, the Shelly. Smile

I'd have simply ignored this thread, but costume wearing at movies was called idiotic 0.o

Anyone want to see the punchline?
"When I ... tried to escape, there was a little girl, 12 or 13, just laying lifeless on the stairs,"

Please, carry on. You're very amusing.

Don't tempt me, Raphiel. I can see the humor in that.

Are you offended or something nonsensical like that?

No, not really. I just don't find what you're saying very funny considering the circumstance.
What I do find vaguely amusing is that you saw a thread in which 12 people, including children, died in a pool of their own blood and you thought:
"Yeah, I think I can get a few laughs out of this one. Everyone loves costumes after all."
I mean, I can't quite fathom how you came to that conclusion but I do find it absolutely amazing.

RD, be fair. Vae did not start that at all. It started with one off-hand comment and snowballed from retorts.

Keep it on topic, please. There really are dead children involved. I would never close a thread because people were being offensive, but staying on-topic is a rule and I would rather enforce it in threads like these than anywhere else.

Shell, come on. We both know the "off hand comment" was calling the guy an idiot for shooting 12 people. There is no way that anyone in their right mind would think "oh, hes angry about the costume".
I mean fair enough, I'll drop it but lets not confuse things here.

Surprising as it might be... my goal in life is not to amuse you.

You overestimate my consideration in which threads I do click on Tongue I was interested in knowing the motivation of the shooter. Nothing else. While skimming the posts, I see Cinjin write that asinine bit about costume wearer's being idiotic.

Interests me far more than people I don't know dying.

I'm not even going to humour you. You're just embarrassing yourself further.
