Rgr, and equally childish.

Or so simple that even a child can understand it?

:p

Seriously, maybe this might help: Does any religion believe in a God that is totally omnibenevolent? No, of course not! Judgment from a god is not totally loving of the one judged, though it might possibly be just, and even tempered with mercy. One would reasonably assume, then that the God of Judaism, or Islam, or Christianity is inherently omnibenevolent, but not totally so. For if the gods of these religions were totally omnibenevolent, no one would be judged, and everyone would be totally forgiven. The fate of Hitler would be no different from the fate of Abraham, Mohammad, or Mother Teresa.

Since it is obvious that the gods of these religions are inherently but not totally omnibenevolent, why is it difficult to accept that the gods of these religions are also inherently but not totally omniscient?

Kirk gave interstellar philandering majestic nobility. Chris Pine crawls out from under Uhura's bed wearing nothing but 23rd century fruit of the looms.

The real Kirk is a dick with gravitas. The "reboot" a mere prick.

I started going grey when I was about 22; does that get me a pass?

(Funnily enough, I started greying up almost overnight, it spread for some months, then just as suddenly stopped. So I still have places where my hair is my original mousy colouring - and I know you've all seen pics of such places in Area 69 - but where I went grey I'm now mostly silvery-white. For instance, my arms and legs, as well as fingers and toes, are still just as hairy as other people's, but it's all practically invisible unless you look really, really close. Yet as you all know, my chest etc is still dark (I was always my Sam's "big hairy gorilla"!), as is the hair at the back of my head. Work that one out!)

Absolutely agree. The original intention behind Star Trek in general and Kirk in particular was Horatio Hornblower in space. Nobody other than the Shat ever did that even remotely as well. It's no wonder that the Klingons never had a word for "fear" until they met Kirk, to cite the old joke.

If that were so then you'd have trouble explaining why so much time is spent drilling this into children's heads and yet someday they find themselves in a place like this forum, incapable of explaining even the simplest portion of their superstitions to an incredulous onlooker.

Sigh, yes, some do.

Are you having trouble with the prefix "omni"?

Quote:For if the gods of these religions were totally omnibenevolent, no one would be judged, and everyone would be totally forgiven.
Many would disagree.

Who are you to say it isn't?

still having trouble with words. What is it that you think "inherent" means, btw, and why do you feel that this is so relevant? Add a qualifier to the front, an addendum to the reaer, it;s the omni bit that always ends up biting you in the ass.

Quote: why is it difficult to accept that the gods of these religions are also inherently but not totally omniscient?
Beyond their being fairy tales? See the above.

So...have we abandoned omniscience in favor of omnibenevolence btw?

(if you want my opiniuon, btw, you've used the word "inherently" when the word you were searching for was probably "apparently"..judging by the Spock example -which was word salad btw. Also.....what use does the term "infinite" have when used before a word with the prefix "omni"?.......)

Yes to the gut, half-credit for the tits, but no to the rest. Looks like I'll have to settle for being a medium-old fart. I can do that.

(By which I mean I can put up with the classification; I wasn't referring to air biscuits, though I can do those as well - or even better, actually.)

Is this necessarily true, if God didn't punish Hitler, it would mean the fate of Hitler would be the same as Abraham?

First, Abraham would have a much higher honor and dignity, for the way he lived. Hitler would have much more disgrace and dishonor for the way he lived.

God having compassion for Hitler, doesn't mean he honors and respects Hitler the way he respects and honors Abraham.

Even if their fates become the same, the life they lived is different, and one will always feel pride and dignity for how one lived, while the other will feel disgrace and shame for how he lived.

Another thing is - perhaps - just perhaps - this is not our one and only chance.

Perhaps everyone deserves more then one chance to get it right. But even in this case, having lived a bad life, will always be upon you, and would never escape you.

Therefore even if both end result is peace and happiness, one would be of much higher dignity and honor then the other.

Omni-benevolent God would feel sorry for a person disgracing himself, much like we felt sorry for Anican Skywalker choosing the evil path, after being good.

Even when Annican Sky Walker turned back and became good at the end, it doesn't erase all the evil he has done, now does it?

Our history is forever connected with us.
