Fucking crazy. Ask real questions about the church and politics and you're worthy of hell. All the secrecy in the church, strongly enforced or, at least, suggested by the leadership (who claim to be profits) makes it all the worse.
Part of me says excommunication from the LDS church is no big deal; after all, it's just an imaginary friend in the sky saying he doesn't like you anymore. However, the social stigmatization that goes along with the excommunication is painful. Other Mormons are discouraged with being friends with you or socializing with you. It's even worse if you live in Utah or Salt Lake City itself; you become a pariah to pretty much everyone.
