How does allowing gays to marry erode our culture?? I'd say if anything threatens the institution of marriage, it's Britney Spears' 36 hour marriage, or Kim Kardashian's 70-some day marriage, not allowing two men or two women to be wed.

The erosion of family law, (which affects children OK!!!) happens on many fronts.

You are quite right about Ms Spears and Ms Kardashian devaluing marriage.
So does pet marriage, cyber marriage, marriage of financial convenience....

I will put that all aside and support the gay rights agenda, if, and only if, you agree to stop the genocide of the unborn that is killing 1.5 million innocent human beings per year.

Who will take me up on this very generous offer?

i find the idea that the atheist community is a monolithic completly undiverse block very insulting.

atheism does not follow any dogma and certainly not a leaderfigure who preaches some dogma, what differs atheism from organised religions is the rational thought process required by each individual to become a atheist, each atheist is a individual who has different points of view on different issues.

the catholic church has one leading figure determening the dogma wich all catholics have to follow. - and that is one big reason amongst the various reasons why i reject it.

Because cultural and natural boundaries stabilize a culture....homosexuality and gay marriage is an unnatural act and is outside of our nation's historic cultural boundaries. Marriage in our culture was understood to be a lifetime commitment between one man and one woman who loved each other. Gay marriage, being wed to multiple spouses, and also as you pointed out, Britney Spears' 36 hour marriage and Kim Kardashian's 70-some day marriage, are all caricatures and distortions of marriage....(again, just because I oppose gay marriage doesn't mean I hate gay people). Our country is culturally Christian.

Which has justified the annihilation of Native Americans, slavery, racism, sexism, imperialism, and a host of other, lesser, evils. And, strives to continue to do so as much as it can manage. If America is 'culturally Christian', then that is a flaw which needs serious correction.

And, the awesome thing is, over time, it will be. The death of this terrible religion in America, at least as a relevant political and social force, is taking pace at a painfully slow rate, but it is inevitable.

Marriage in your culture was once understood to be between one man (on a particular race) and a woman (of that same race), that was the culture (at least in certain regions). Should that not have been changed? 'Tradition' and 'culture' don't cut it as reasons for unequal treatment under the law.

I don't care what the culture is or isn't, denying people equal treatment under the law is bullshit, what business is it of the government's what consenting adults do? Nobody should be punished or rewarded by the government for loving someone. Why should the government reward people financially for doing what 'most' people do? Why is government involved in marriage at all? Either it's a religious thing, in which case the government needs piss off and leave it to churches (and what about religious freedom?), or it's a civil thing, in which case every consenting adult should be allowed to marry the person they love. Your government provide benefits for married couples? And are gay people are forced to pay for that? That's disgusting (my own government is no better mind you).
Nemo me impune lacessit.

I get pissed off that my marriage, is used by christians, they say marriage is the way they want it. I got married to my wife in a secular ceremony, it had nothing to do with a fictitious god. And the adherents to that fictitious god have no ground to say what my marriage is or is not about. On another thread there was a call for religious tolerance, it seems to me the intolerance of christians saying others cannot take part in ceremonies that have nothing to do with christians, seems to point to the fact that there will be no toleration until we have wiped every one of them from the face of the earth.

I'm not saying anything at all against a secular wedding ceremony. I'm just saying that marriage is a legal contractual lifelong commitment between a man and a woman whether it's secular or non secular. What I'm opposed to is the culturally distorted caricatures of marriage, which includes gay marriage, polygamy, and the kinds of marriages that festive mentioned.
