Here's someone who uses Halloween to evangelize. Tape a piece of candy to your religious tract and other fun ideas! *note sarcasm* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdvbeNYuFL0

I have studied the Bible and the theology behind Christianity for many years. I have been to many churches. I have walked the depth and the breadth of the religion and, as a result of this, I have a lot of bullshit to scrape off the bottom of my shoes. ~Ziploc Surprise

My usual response to beggers is, "I don't think so pal, if I'm going to buy boos, they're going to be for me."
If that makes me callous, I don't care. I give my charity to actual charities that do actual good with the money.
I don't think homeless people are that way because of laziness or stupidity. Mostly they are because of drug and alcohol abuse or mental problems. I find it extremely sad, although I agree with you that giving them money is not an effective solution. I also want to note to people that most homeless people aren't beggars, they exist off of food banks and soup kitchens and never beg.

Take my money, it's from Jesus

After seeing beggars on the streets of Nairobi, I don't give to the homeless here, where we may have inadequate services, but we still have them.
When I worked in DC I was approached by a homeless woman, who was obviously pregnant, and had a toddler in a stroller. She told me how she had missed the food truck, I felt bad that her kid was going to go hungry so I gave her money. Two days later I saw her at the liquor store arguing with the store owner who was refusing to sell her booze because she was pregnant.
Then there was Charlie. He was the panhandler who worked the block my store was on. He'd come in on average 3-4 times a day to trade in his change for bills. He was making $60-100 a day, which was more than I was earning. But he was obviously schizophrenic, he had completely lucid days and others that he'd sit around talking to people who weren't there. There was no way he could hold a job without serious meds. Whoever ran out to grab lunch for the store would take his order too, we all pitched in and bought him lunch everyday. He had an apartment somewhere and didn't sleep on the street.
Now I have the rather terrifying issue that my father is homeless and living in a shelter. He has uncontrolled bipolar disorder, the meds don't help for long, and he's just a very nasty person to deal with. There's really nothing my family can do to help, he's tapped everyone out. It's just sad. But I worry about him often.

It means that the only way he has money is because the opportunity for wealth was a gift from Jesus that is meant to be shared with those who are in need.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

If I was homeless I'd rather get money from a Christian than no money at all from an atheist.
There are downtrodden folk in the world who have literally no one to help them, sometimes the only people there for them are Christians or Christian organizations. Don't you get it? Even if religious drivel is preached under the guise of money or food aid, at the end of the day, it's still fucking money and food aid.
I bet you feel so badass for going on the internet and complaining about a Christian giving money to a poor person.
You're so fucking edgy, dude.
get fucked.

You clearly misinterpreted the OP. He gave the guy money too, he just didn't give a rant about Jesus along with it.

Is it just me who thinks the guy was a wanker? Because if I was homeless the last person I'd be thanking is fucking jesus.
I personally would not have given him a spare change at all, for that spare change is what keeps him down. Feeding homeless money is equal to giving them more and more alcohol to destroy themselves.
Instead, I would have taken him somewhere to buy him a meal. Do this next time.
And I'm not telling this just to you, but to the people who are religious, and wish to help a homeless person(or beggar, although most beggars do not need your help, just your money). You can't do this by giving them money.

well i can usualy clearly see wich homelessguy in Hamburg is just begging for booze since they usualy hang arround the drugstore (wich is where i asume they also have breakfest).
in the case of the preacher, i`d told the homeless guy, in front of the preacher, that i`m giving him the money without anoying him with my mental problems. and then walked off
