Are you implying that everything can be cured?

That seems to be what you are implying.

As we know, god certainly can't cure all ills and neither can humans.

So as usual, you have fuck all point.

And as usual, I always get spoken to in such a civilized way around here!

My point is that you can cure little to nothing. My point is that you can't stop an old woman from getting old, getting sick and dying. You don't want suffering in this life, but still, suffering comes.

My point is that there are higher powers than you in this universe that you're forced to surrender to.

"But wait! The stupid flying spaghetti monster fairy asshole Bible God isn't making me suffer! I don't believe in the stupid old myths, you stupid, creationist asshole idiot no-proof moron! It's just natural laws of the universe (whatever the fuck that even means)!"

You're naturally entitled to whatever frame of reference floats your boat.

My point is simple: atheists experience a higher power, if in no other way, by their suffering.

How is suffering attributable to a higher power? Suffering comes from the basic fact that we are alive. We are all born, we will all die. If we are lucky we'll grow old, only to watch our bodies betray us as they decay and move toward the inevitability of death. If we aren't lucky, we'll die in infancy or childhood or by some violent means. Life is suffering and pain... But there's also the flip side to that, life can be beautiful, moving, and awe-inspiring. There's no higher power involved.

Quote:I am to understand you do. Ordinary people here doe the same ...it equals to a "Fuck you i don't care but I am to say these things because of my religion" Either way = they don't care and don't like you, the result is the same.
I don't know why you always expect the worse out of people. I guess life didn't treat you well, friend.

Besides, I believe that good words, even if you will go home and have a nice good night's sleep after saying those words, even without saying a prayer, is the right thing to do.
Besides, why would someone who doesn't like you nor care about you say such things at all?
Quote:You can be so simplistic when you wish to be can't you? That is what I was referring to. "Good Will~ Placebo Effect" have the same outcomes. Nothing tangible, nothing you could 'take to the bank'
From what I know, the placebo effect is in effect if you believe that this particular thing that you've received is going to help you recover.
Not every person believes that prayer will cure a man, but might simply take it as a good word. And I don't think that's enough in itself to cause the effect.

That "higher" power is reality - not your god.

When I say "higher power" I'm not talking about church, hocus pocus, fairy tale, stupid myth, asshole god, invisible, turn or burn, unprovable, unscientific, stupid Bible, whatever ideas. Please put that aside for one moment. I feel like that is a lot of noise that blocks people's perceptions of common, simple human experiences.

I'm pointing out a truth that anyone can practically experience.

You take it for granted that "suffering comes from the basic fact that we are alive." My question is - Where does that fact of life come from? What law of physics or chemistry or mathematics or whatever explains that? And, Why can't I do anything about it?

Especially in a godless universe, why can't I do - literally - whatever the hell I want? If there is nothing higher than me, that would kinda make me god, or something, right? So why am I built with desires and feelings and needs that are barely satisfied in this world?

I agree that we all suffer, many of us will get old and sick, and everyone dies. So I, as a subjective conscious entity, have been thrust into this situation... why? Why does that stuff have to happen to me? I don't want to suffer, but suffering comes. Why? I don't want to grow old, but it's happening. Why?

The answer is oh-so-simple: I'm not in control. My will means very very little. The universe is not out to serve me and my needs.

So who/what/where/when/why/how is in control?

I don't know - but it's definitely higher powers than me.

Awesome, I love this answer. And I love how much you already know about it!

Please tell me everything you know about "reality."

From a specific configuration of atoms.

There are many, many laws explaining different aspects of it.

(October 21, 2012 at 12:22 pm)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: And, Why can't I do anything about it?

You can do a lot about it - if you apply yourself and study it.

(October 21, 2012 at 12:22 pm)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: Especially in a godless universe, why can't I do - literally - whatever the hell I want?

Because you are bound by the rules of your existence.

(October 21, 2012 at 12:22 pm)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: If there is nothing higher than me, that would kinda make me god, or something, right?

Nope.

(October 21, 2012 at 12:22 pm)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: So why am I built with desires and feelings and needs that are barely satisfied in this world?

Study psychology and neurology to find that answer.

Wrong - you are an objective conscious entity.

(October 21, 2012 at 12:22 pm)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: have been thrust into this situation... why?

Because your dad thrusted into your mom.

(October 21, 2012 at 12:22 pm)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: Why does that stuff have to happen to me?

Different stuff would have different causes.

(October 21, 2012 at 12:22 pm)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: I don't want to suffer, but suffering comes. Why? I don't want to grow old, but it's happening. Why?

Because laws of nature do not bow to your desires.

Exactly. Nor does it serve the will of anyone else.

(October 21, 2012 at 12:22 pm)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: So who/what/where/when/why/how is in control?

No one is in conscious control.

(October 21, 2012 at 12:22 pm)Akincana Krishna dasa Wrote: I don't know - but it's definitely higher powers than me.

Wrong again.

What you fail to understand is that while there are "powers" or rather rules by which the universe works, these cannot be considered higher or lower that any other powers - because the other powers are a part and parcel of the universe as well. If you insist on calling them "higher" simply because they seem to control your life - try and remember that we have been able to understand and use these "higher" powers towards our own purposes, which would make us the higher powers.

I should clarify: By "nothing" I mean no conscious entity.

If these types of circular, question-begging answers satisfy you..... what can I say?

GOOD LUCK.

Care to explain how the given answers use circular reasoning or beg the question?
