Why don't Christians pay Muslims the same respect ?

All I'm doing is looking at human behaviour and wondering how some weird cult got started in Judea. We can't deny that some weird cult started somewhere because Christianity is with us today. John M Allegro's idea that Jesus was really some kind of psychedelic mushroom cult could turn out to be the true origin of Christianity. Where are the snake and mushroom smilies?

My opinion is that Catholicism is based on the mushroom cult. Still up in the air as to the origins of Yeshua's tale... .
Or a bunch of people were believing in apocalyptic prophecies to explain their shitty lives? Still works today.

I think the mushroom cult idea is far more interesting than some failed Messiah getting executed. Maybe they'd given up on the idea of getting a human Messiah who would drive the Romans out of Judea and decided they'd rather have a supernatural one instead. You can't fail with a Messiah who refuses to stay dead. All those beliefs about loving one's neighbour etc. went out of the window when the Roman faction got into power, though. Gnostic Christianity is fascinating and very different from what ended up as Christianity. Tacitus could have been referring to Jewish Gnosticism which broke out again after somebody was supposed to have been executed. We'll never know why Jewish Gnosticism or whatever it was spread to Rome after Pilate's time, though Once the Roman faction got firmly established they didn't show respect to anyone who believed something different to what they promoted and this takes us back to the opening post in this topic. Gnosticism isn't the same a early Christianity.
Early Christianity was almost identical to Judeaism (sp?) in it's origins. After all, Yeshua was a Jew according to the story, correct? . |
