Wow. I'm kinda surprised here. Thanks, everyone, for coming to my defense, but, really, it's not like haters like Johnny here get to me anymore. Part of being transsexual is that you deal with a lot of them. I just shrug it off and ignore the troll.

Person with vagina and same traits = feminine

No, johny dear: effeminacy can be applied to females just as readily as males, and increasingly is with further recognition of lesbian couples Smile

It's typically used as a derogative, of course. And males are readily declarable as 'feminine', which is neutral, and often intended as a positive value Sleepy

Someone not grasping intent as it relates to the english language ≠ someone else's wording refuting their argument. Of the three terms I pulled, foppish was by far the weakest... neither effeminacy nor femininity is necessarily of either gender (however often it be used towards either one)... but foppishness only occurs in a dandy, a glamour boy, and a 'snappy dresser' Tongue

I would note, JohnV isn't a hater... just a disagreer Tongue

Large difference, really boils down to if they're foaming at the mouth and red-faced. Rabid native-american racist joke? Damn right.

I've always wondered how other women managed it... the only way I've been able to recreate 'bunched panties' is by either pulling oversized panties up and down repeatedly and violently... or by putting it through the washer/dryer.

Conclusion: only fat sluts who are losing weight and sweating a lot can get their panties twisted.

Incorrect. Effeminate is typically used of males or inanimate objects, not females. Do you need me to post some definitions showing that?

This - and John, that is the difference.

I'm looking at one right now...

"(of a man) having or showing characteristics regarded as typical of a woman; unmanly."

And that's all it says before it goes into origins and alternate forms. It's been used for many a year TYPICALLY for males (and inanimate objects)... but it's base use has always existed, and it's being increasingly used by butch ladies into other butch ladies as a put-down for 'lipstick lesbians'.

Again, I intentionally put foppish in there for you to have a field day with, and you ignored it Tongue I totally agree that its usual usage is "(of a man)"... but that doesn't stop me from recognizing its use outside of such Smile

Yep, the definitions generally note that it's used of a man for the first definition, and give a second which applies to inanimate objects.
Quote:And that's all it says before it goes into origins and alternate forms.
The etymology being "to make a woman of," which of course indicates it's referring to a man.

Yep, just like I said.
Quote:but it's base use has always existed,
Base being to make a woman of, as noted above.
Quote:and it's being increasingly used by butch ladies into other butch ladies as a put-down for 'lipstick lesbians'.
Special usage by a tiny minority.

I know. Nothing stops you from using a word - e.g. woman or feminine - outside of its commonly understood meaning.

If you can make a man out of a bunch of males, you can make a woman out of a female (I'd note that earlier in the movie, they are trying to do *just that*) Tongue

Special usages by 'tiny minorities' wander their way into common tongue all the time... such as the homosexual use of the word 'gay' Sleepy

I generally try to make sure that words are at least consistent in their meanings to me... because generally: words have very circular definitions, and are literally (...) misused. It's frustrating Undecided
