I find that horrid event to be one of the worst atrocities of the twenty-first century due to the unfortunate fact that around 500,000 Iraqi civilians (many insurgents who had the instinct to repel the invaders) and three-thousand American troops lost their lives in the cross-fire.
And all for what?
No "WMD's" were ever discovered.
And the infrastructure of an entire nation crumbled.

Another piece of evidence that we were lied into a war.
Quote:Fresh evidence is revealed today about how MI6 and the CIA were told through secret channels by Saddam Hussein’s foreign minister and his head of intelligence that Iraq had no active weapons of mass destruction.
Tony Blair told parliament before the war that intelligence showed Iraq’s nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons programme was “active”, “growing” and “up and running”.
Throw it on the pile that nobody in the mainstream media seems to care about. It can take its place along the Downing Street Memo, the Debunked Yellow Cake from Niger story and the inside source testimony from Gen Clarke.

I'm sure they will re-cycle some of that for Iran in time.

Pretext is as important to the business of waging war now as it was for those who made it into an art so long ago.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
