Lol, saving money is always a plus. I'm the same way when I'm tired. I sleep on the train, airplane, where people are usually afraid to sleep. I was tired enough and somewhat drunk at a club one time, I fell asleep on the speakers while everyone was still partying. Awesome.

I've come to know a few people who don't mind sleeping with the light on while others must have it on to sleep.
I personally can't stand any light when its that time to hit the hay. I must have complete darkness or something close to it. I'm the kinda guy that will go as far as covering up my windows just in case the sun comes up before I'm up.
You mean like leaving a light on and checking under the bed and the closet for a god or a believer?
I sleep under any conditions any time of day or night. Being retired I lost sync with the work day and more or less live on a 25 hour day. Sleeping all day and up all night is nothing unusual and frankly feels better. It is definitely quieter. When I slide around to waking around sunrise it will lock there for a few weeks but as soon as I oversleep the sun I start drifting around the clock again.
Back in the good (that they are over) old days I ran a couple sea tests. I discovered the military "sleep when you can" method came naturally. I'd nod off in a sitting position after one run was completed and wake up just before the next one started.
As to you folks who can't sleep in the light, do not your eyelids work? Isn't that what they are for? I can suggest a magic marker to improve effectiveness perhaps. If Goth use black eyeshadow.

I slept with the light on for a week after watching Ju-on in the theater. Then when I got the DVD and watched it again, I had to sleep with the lights on for several days.
Generally I prefer darkness, but I'm not overly picky. I have to navigate quite a distance from the light switch to my bed, so I have a medium strength night light to guide my way. I have chronic insomnia, but light isn't a big trigger for me. A lot of people can sleep in a seated position, I usually can't. It's been a long time since I fell asleep watching the TV, but that's largely because I watch hardly any TV, and my couch isn't currently in front of a working TV. One thing, in addition to sleeping sitting up that I have difficulty with, is people touching me, in contact with me, like when seated on a long bus ride. I have great difficulty relaxing enough to sleep in such situations. (I once took the Amtrak train to Texas to visit my dad and fell asleep in my seat one evening. I awoke to find a 6'3" black man draped over me, snoring.) My father on the other hand, falls asleep whenever and wherever. I had a good scare one time. He had been putting in long hours at work, and so he was prone to falling asleep while driving home. I was doing something in the garden, and I look over, and there's the yellow truck sitting parked in the driveway, and he's in the driver's seat, slumped over. I was just sure he'd had a heart attack or something and died right there in our driveway. So I cautiously approached the driver's side door. At first, I wasn't sure what to do. What do you do when you suspect somebody is dead? Wake them? I hesitated, and then knocked on the window. He woke right up. He was fine. I, on the other hand, probably looked like I'd seen a ghost.

I take medicine that makes me naturally sleep 14 hours a day. I'm in college, so I'm lucky if I get 8. I sleep everywhere.

Prefer a darkened room for sleep. I have to be very sick or very tired to sleep during the day (even with the blinds closed)
Oh, and does Zen snoring = "white noise"?

I can fall asleep with the light on, but most sounds keep me awake. I use earplugs on planes.

I had a 1st Sgt at my initial duty station that couldn't do anything with the lights off (let alone sleep). He got violent if you tried to turn a light off in his Brad. Man was terrified of the dark. I don't personally care, I can even snooze while walking (no shit).

I prefer to sleep in the dark, but a dim light doesn't keep me up. I'm more sensitive to temperature and noise. I like to be in a cool to cold room under blankets, if it is too hot, I can't sleep at all. After living behing a 7-11 with a 4am trash pickup (really loud clanging dumpsters) I can't sleep in total quiet, I find it disturbing... I also lived close to the zoo, so I got woken up to shrieking monkeys several times... That was creepy to the max, waking from a dead sleep to unearthly screams... Until I got used to it and it didn't wake me anymore.
