Re: Dear Christians
True true.

But hey, it's not like Jesus ever says crazy shit in the NT, right? Right?

Revelations 2:19-23 Wrote:19 “I know your works, love, service, faith, and your patience; and as for your works, the last are more than the first. 20 Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 21 And I gave her time to repent of her sexual immorality, and she did not repent. 22 Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of their deeds. 23 I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts. And I will give to each one of you according to your works."

RIGHT?!

No, I'm saying that I can see numerous reasons why those laws were there.

"Don't eat pork" is from the law that "allows" any animal with a cloven hoof and chews cud. It was in the 1940's that scientists discovered the actual dangers of undercooked pork.
"must have scales" eliminates quite a lot of sea creatures. Mollusks are know to contain high percenatges of heavy metals plus a high percentage of physical allergies to them.
"Don't touch carcasses and wash if you do" has obvious beneficial outcomes from following said "law"

But my favorite is that if a woman is on her period, she should be expelled from camp until it's over. The fucking brilliance of the ancient Israelites is amazing. Smile

Jesus said that?!?!? Really?

But anyways...
Revelation 22:18-19
King James Version (KJV)

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

There is no promise that the Bible is 100% accurate.

So... Warm country + pork = lots of people suffering from food poisoning = God must be angry!
That's blatantly where that law came from. Before these things were understood, anything bad that happened was considered punishment from God. Even today there are those who claim this of every natural disaster, even though we know for a fact nowadays that tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, floods, and hurricanes are not supernatural events.

WTF?
It's basic observational laws. The ancient Israelites lied, it says so in the Bible. "thus saith the Lord when the Lord hath not spoken" and all that shit. (don't you atheists really read the Bible?) So what's your point?

Do you think rotating crops is a good, scientifically supported "law"?
Do you like the idea of a no-interest loan?
Did you know that if an Israelite was in a foreign country that they were to eat what was offered to them out of respect?

Hate what you like, but at least be informed about it. It just shows a lack of knowledge.

The Christian, the Muslim, and the Native American have equal ability and opportunity in respect to salvation. Knowledge does not grant salvation. Ever.

That's because with knowledge it becomes clear that salvation is a fraud.

Let me get this straight. We can ignore divine prohibitions if we later learn, scientifically, how to evade negative consequences? This of course is ignoring the fact that humans, without God's help, were eating pig for millenia prior to 1940. Thanks God, big fucking help. I would be more impressed if the Bible said God rained down a shit ton of thermometers and proclaimed "cook pig until it has an internal temperature of at least 145F".

Undercooked chicken can be a son of a bitch too. Still looking for chapter and verse where eating a chicken is prohibited.

Guess god isnt powerful as people thought. Specially if the dumb humans can find a way around it/she/he rules.

It would be an interesting world if god had been real and threw science at people. We'd have an bible that was actually interesting to read.

Did you quote the right post? Yours doesn't seem to respond to mine at all?

Yes, Jesus did say that in the bible. What I posted was a C&P from bible gateway, not something I wrote myself.

And of course there is no promise that the Bible is 100% accurate. There is no promise it is even 10% accurate. It also doesn't tell you which parts are accurate, which makes it ideal for Christians who like to pick and choose which bits are accurate based on their personal views. They will read a verse, if they like it it's accurate, if they don't, it isn't accurate. Even though they don't actually know which bits are supposed to be accurate and which bits aren't.
