But they aren't bound by laws forcing them to get married in the first place. Murder isn't only illagal once you've killed a person, is it?
What marriage laws are you even referring to? Married couples follow the same laws as everybody else.

There are laws specific to married couples, after all. For instance, you cannot be compelled to testify against your spouse. A hospital has to allow you to visit your spouse, unless the patient requests otherwise. You are automatically considered the next-of-kin. Any rug rats that come along are automatically considered his responsibility even if he ups and books. Oh, and one more thing- even though this isn't a law, if she ends up meeting a sudden violent demise, he's the prime suspect.
