Although I would agree that the legal recognition of same sex marriages could possibly lead in the long term to the legal recognition of multi-partnered (polyamorous) marriage. However I ask to nearly everybody on here, is that a bad thing?.

Maybe then again I could be a weirdo who also believes that incest between consenting adults should be legal as well.

Yeah I'm right there with ya. But I'd also say let them marry animals to if they want to. I really don't give a fuck....

People at least in Australia can marry their dogs if they want to, there is no law against it (although such marriages aren't legally recognised). Although in Mainland Australia having sex with your dog is illegal, legal although in places like Norfolk or Christmas Island.

I have never understood the opposition to homosexual marriages. There should only be laws against actions that carry an external harm. How the bloody hell does homosexual marriage hurt anyone? It doesn't.

We have to remember that it is not about gay marriage as such.
It is about power over others. And what is power except the ability to deny others choices in their own lives.

It does harm one thing; their egos. The sense that their beliefs are being disregarded in such a way means they are obliged to rebel against it, even if those beliefs are demonstrably trash in the first place.

Exactly. Even if there were scores of people out there clamoring for the right to marry animals, it doesn't make gay marriage wrong and shouldn't infringe upon the rights of gay people to get married.

Exactly. The reason they are against gay marriage is because if gay marriage is legal, then it grants more legitimacy to homosexuality, and the homophobes can't allow that to happen. That, and the fact that conservatives realize they're losing their power grip on society. What they don't seem to realize is that keeping gay marriage illegal is not going to make gay people stop being gay. They seem to think that there's still a chance they'll be able to force gays back into the closet, but if gay marriage is allowed then there's no chance of that at all.

My sister's lesbian marriage just suddenly made me want to go out and dump my loving wife (not).

Unless and until a valid -secular- argument can be made for treating one segment of society differently than another, it has no place in our secular law.

Sounds like all those bigots who were behind that ballot initiative in North Carolina last year that basically denied all benefits to homosexual couples.

So much for hating the sin but loving the sinner, eh?

Only if the sinner isn't the wrong kind of sinner.

I guess adultery is OK and forgivable as long as you're a man screwing a woman.
