The only thing this "poor man" has to offer me is his hand in my pocket. That, and a staph infection. Do you know what a parable is? It's a story to illustrate a point. It seems you missed it entirely. AGAIN!

Was the first responder actually the only one who understood that this tale was a parable? The "bum" is a real character, and I have fed and clothed him MANY times. Unlike christians, I would never make someone a promise of paradise that was contingent upon blind adherence to fantastic and wicked requirements. I posited this tale to mirror the christian model of "worship or die". Unlike the christian god, I am not that cruel. Joke

I felt obliged to respond to multiple 'takes'. Unfortunately, clarifying my status as devil's advocate seemed tedious at the moment. That, and I'm lazy(and drunk...is this even legible?). But you're obviously a bum kicking bastard, so hey! I still feel good about myself. :p

The only bum I've ever kicked is myself. If I hadn't, I'd probably still be homeless. Peace

Where was the "Bum's" respect for FFF as a human being? He fed, clothed and talked to the guy, who saw it fit to judge him based on his lack of beliefs, but still saw his clothes, time and food as good enough. No, respect needs to be earned, and I say that FFF has showed this guy enough respect as a fellow human deserves and no, FF does not need to fake pity for "Bum" just because of the homelessness and take the crap dished out by him.
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

I thought you said the story's a parable, being you can't seem to keep this fact straight in your own mind, you will excuse us if we believe you're deluded and that you do not know what reality is.
God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

GC, something happened to your post (at least I can't see it). Is it on purpose, or do you want me to restore it?

Be kind to the theists, dude: they're very used to taking things that are written down to be absolutely true, heedless of logic. Wink

and yet that is exactly why we are all doing, and as is typical of the deluded and blind, they fail to see exactly why that is the case.

This isn't just going over you and GC's heads...it packed its bags, hopped into first class and took a ride on a prototype commercial stratojet over your heads.

"Those who cannot laugh at themselves leave the job to others."

This dude fed a homeless man constantly and listened to him, and never made an effort to deconvert the man even when the sad sack started hurling vile comments at him. All he did was respond in the exact same way as you theists would have done. Now you're all up in arms. See, when the shoe is on the other foot you cross over your chest and whisper "bless the missionary for his charity" regardless of the cruelty of his actions to the rest of us, but when it happens the other way around suddenly it's "YOU ARE VILE AND SADISTIC AND YOU SHOULDN'T BE BRAGGING." Ohh my "god" the irony. Fellow forum-goers, if irony was strawberries, we'd all be drinking a lot of smoothies...

But hey, maybe it's good you feel so offended. Maybe now you get how WE feel every time we look at the hand of false comforts and even falser friendships being offered to those who need actual, no-strings-attached help. But more likely you're just going to think yourselves morally superior and the only ones with the "one true charity." In other words, the status quo will remain.

Meanwhile the rest of us who actually have capacity of mind enough to get what FFF was saying WILL be congratulating him, not just for feeding and clothing a bum who showed so much appreciation that he felt it necessary to condemn the one who helped him to damnation based on his own silly superstitions, but also for trying to display the ACTUAL cruelty of what your mythologies espouse.

So, to FFF, I applaud you. Clap

So it's wrong for fff to offer food, shelter and comfort in return for some worship, keeping in mind that this bum CAN see and enjoy all the food, shelter and comfort and if he doesn't see it, he can stop worshipping anytime he likes. But it's ok for god to ask for worship and promise something that we can't even confirm, and so have to worship forever for a chance that it's true?

and i agree that fff did good, the bum doesn't deserve half of it if he can condemn the hand that helps him when he's at his worst.
