So verse 27 is talking about the second coming and the next verse is talking about the establishment of the Church (which, of course, happened first). Kinda confusing don't you think - seems to have caught us both out for a while there.
No, I think it's quite appropriate, we are speaking of Jews and they never believed Jesus would die until He was actually crucified. They were always thinking He would reveal who He was and put an end to their oppression, they still did not understand at this point in Christ's ministry it's true purpose. The church at this point was a true mystery to them, not until the day of Pentecost and their filling by the Holy Spirit were they able to see and understand the spiritual kingdom. All they really understood about Christ at this point was, He would establish an earthly Kingdom, this is the one the Jews are still waiting on.
Quote:From verse 28, however "....some who are standing here will not taste death before..." Now it seems to me that the period of time between Jesus speaking and his resurrection would have to be short.
The time at this point was probably a year give or take a little time.
Quote:Some who are standing here? All, surely - except Jesus himself. Have we stumbled on a in-joke that only Jesus would have gotten?
Well I wouldn't call death a joke, but yes Christ knew when each of them would die. I think He deliberately kept from them how soon some of these things would take place, He loved them and didn't want to worry them IMO. If it's worth anything.

Biased crap, no need to read it. That's not much of a call, most of you do not read scripture and ascertain things for yourselves, you just copy others work and play follow the leader, you're an unthinking dude.
You can't destroy my knowledge of God nor my faith in who He is, Christ said do not be afraid of those who hate you, they can only destroy the body, it's temporary I will get a new one.

Nothing major to add just a couple of things:
You reckon a year between the above and Jesus' crucifiction? I never thought of it as being anything like that long. A month would seem a more reasonable guesstimate - but I can't see why that would be important.
Actually I realized this morning that not all of them would make it to the resurrection. One specifically didn't - Judas.
As for this:

I really don't think there is a single person on this forum looking to harm you physically. I'd be surprised if anyone actually hates you.

Just read the Bible.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Is your faith making you paranoid?
I did not mean anyone would harm me, it was an illustration as to why I know their's no one who can destroy my belief in God. As far as hating me, yes some here have made that statement to me, guess they do not like my stance with Christ, I've not budged in over three years. My faith brings me great delight there's no reason for me to be paranoid. Hope this makes sense to you.

If you want to be my friend you need to show it. Just because you read the Bible doesn't mean a thing, I noticed you did not say anything about studying scriptures. I know Christians who have been believers far longer than yourself and they have learned little, still babes needing milk, study means one is truly interested in what their faith is about.
I know plenty about my enemy and the enemy is not you or anyone else here, by the way how does one study nothingness, that's what atheism has been described as being, that does come from this site by atheist.

I have tried to show you that the Bible is errancy-filled, and therefore not the work of a perfect being, but the work of simple men. What would you like me to say about the scriptures? Have you not seen my posts about the virgin birth, the trinity or why I think God is evil? I quote scripture extensively in those threads. I have never claimed to be an expert, but I'm not dumb, either.
I've seen them and the way you misuse scriptures, as far as I'm concerned you know nothing about scriptures except how to make them say something they don't.
BRB Wrote:I am trying to show you that life is not under the control of some mysterious being that can never be seen or heard. I am showing you that your life is in your own hands. Who you are, what morals you have and what goals you have in life are under your own control. And that, to me, is what atheism is all about. It's not about nothingness, it's about experiencing everything the way it should be experienced, with an open mind, not fear.
You have failed badly, you think I haven't seen the crap you're posting before you got here. Your life might be in your hands, however I've chosen to live mine in a relationship with God and follow the teachings from His omniscience. I have great experiences with God, I get to see things through His eyes, to bad you did not try and live a life for Him and to glorify Him, you might have found out who God really is.
BRB Wrote:Live for growth and change, GC, don't fear imperfection.
You mean to tell me you lived in fear as a Christian, and you say you know the scriptures. There's no reason to live in fear as a Christian. For Christians who care, growth and change are a part of our relationship with God a part we look forward to.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.
