The amount of kudos I got for that post reflects the level of respect Rayaan has around here. As of today it's the 5th most kudosed post of all time: http://atheistforums.org/topposts.php

He's pretty rad, but really, you all are. I've moderated at a handful of forums, and this crew is on top of things yet still lets us be adults.

RE: Reputation
Best way to do this is to rep someone and see how this person thanks you. For example, you could rep me to 30, because who wants to be a 29er, and then watch how I thank you. There is no need to thank me for this acts of kindness. I'm just trying to help.
Pointing around: "Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, you're cool, fuck you, I'm out!"

For a brief moment at one point, I was like "I wonder if I could ever be a mod."

My room-mate came in a few minutes later asking if I was lighting a bowl.

RE: Reputation
Personally I prefer Kudos to reps. Kudos doesn't keep a score - its just someone saying they liked your post and that's nice to know especially if you spent some time putting it together.

With Reps, for me, the score is irrelevant - its the message that comes with it. If I get a generic rep it really doesn't mean anything (and I do have some of those). A couple of the reps, however, really made me feel good as the message was personal and appreciative.

Not sure about reciprocal repping. In some ways it reduces the value. If I rep someone and they rep me back - just because I did it for them what does that say? Not much as far as I can see.

Then again - I'm odd.

RE: Reputation
why aren't we allowed to Rep someone at least twice in one year?
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

Rep is for life and it's one rep per member. But you can always update the message, if you want to Smile
When I was young, there was a god with infinite power protecting me. Is there anyone else who felt that way? And was sure about it? but the first time I fell in love, I was thrown down - or maybe I broke free - and I bade farewell to God and became human. Now I don't have God's protection, and I walk on the ground without wings, but I don't regret this hardship. I want to live as a person. -Arina Tanemura

My opinion of what constitutes good moderation has changed over the years as we have tried different things, but through trial and error I think we've come to a pretty good "mostly hands off" approach, where moderation is usually only required when things escalate.

Of course, it also helps to have a great community behind you, following the rules to the best of their ability. :-)

Rep only works if you give it to me first. It's just how the system works.

Okay, then, here's the answer.

I do argue occasionally (and there are plenty of threads that prove that) but not as much as before. I have a life outside the forum, too. Wink

Also, I tend to spend more time doing research on stuff than arguing.
