Scientology -
"ology" - ancient greek for "study of"
"Scien" - from the latin - scio - knowlege.
So it is a combination of a greek and latin word meant to mean "The study of knowlege".
Maybe the OP just found out about a few Latin and ancient greek words and got overly excited about using them (what would have not happened if he had went to a European school where we still learn Latin and ancient greek)
Here is another greek word that has been in existance far longer than scientology and which has become a school of humanistic science.
"Epistomology" - "The science of Knowlege" which is the term given to the philosophical school of thought concerend with the questions surrounding the subject of knowlege:

I strongly suggest to OP that you may read through this.

I been checking it out and I think its helping me a lot. YOu can go on their website and see local churches close to you (usually in bigger cities.)
Check out this video its only 1 minute long but its what motivated to give it a try:
<VIDEO REMOVED>
see? Scientology is a quest for knowledge, just like atheism.
And i been going to the church and they havn't tried to take all my money - yes they sold me a couple books but nowadays the church has evolved that you dont have to spend all your money on auditing you can get a "self analysis" book and fix the negative energy within you urself!
its just a great community and the people are really firendly, please just the watch the video!
its just like atheism, int he video they talk about knowledge, non comformity, thinking for yourself, being a free thinker.
Buy yourself a copy of "The History of Man" by Elron Hubbard. If after reading this pile of whacked out gibberish, and want to bother with Scientology, well, your middle name is truly Gullible. This book has more bizzarness in 90 pages than any other book I have ever read.

Cheerful Charlie That ones so nutty even those with clam engrams try to push it out of sight.
And while you're browsing your local org's bookshelf, be sure to ask about Hubbards "Brainwashing Manual" that he tried to pass off as a Soviet document.

So, except for the expense, it's just like Christianity, right?
Is the central message of Scientology "you're a disgusting piece of filth that doesn't deserve anything good but you can get it anyway if you simply dispose of your identity and never have fun again"?

I once saw a report of an ex-Scientologist who escaped the cult and has since converted to Fundamentalist Christianity.
My response:
At least it's progress to a more rational worldview.

Oh I dunno - from the outside one cult looks pretty much like another.

Maybe it's my business training but I can't help but run the numbers.
Christianity: Will take 10% of your income.
Scientology: Will take everything.
The guy is 90% of the way there.

You've got a point, there - but the fact remains, you don't want either one on your shoes.
