Why are atheists disrespectful?
Some argue that they are not and I totally agree that some atheists are respectful, conservative, and contribute to our society. But then, I scroll through the internet finding disrespectful images, blogs, and videos that bash on Christians.
Why do disrespectful atheists ask for respect when they don't give it back?
Do you guys all remember the golden rule?
Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
The golden rule isn't even religious based. It's just a culture-based morality that follows the guidelines of many (if not all) religions.
It makes me upset and flustered when atheists complain about not getting respect when in reality, they don't return it.....
Anyways, just my thoughts.
Feel free to talk about your ideas; I'm interested in hearing some concepts. Smile

Because religion has lost every disagreement it has had with science.

Because they used to persecute/mistreat witches, non-believers, people of other religions, free thinkers, LGBT, and other groups and when it falls out of favor to persecute/mistreat one of these groups, they just continue to persecute the others.

Because they use "faith" as support for their irrational beliefs and practices, and against reason when their arguing with us irreligious folks.

Because those of them that believe in clearly unscientific ideas (like creationism) try to back up their beliefs with pseudo-science and misrepresenting scientific ideas such as claiming that evolution happened "by chance" or was "an accident".

Because religious people claim their morals come from religion even though they largely come from secular democratic values such as equality of opportunity, (more or less) equality of the sexes, freedom of expression, and the other values that we as westerners both religious and non-religious value.

Because they ban things that are enjoyable or natural like pre-marital sex, porn, masturbation, drinking alcohol, gambling, and using profane language and make people feel guilty when they partake in or even wish to partake in such activities.

Because the two most popular religions in the world- Christianity and Islam which together account for about half the world's population, both teach that non-believers will be eternally tortured in hellfire.

And most importantly because they teach and believe in things that are not only false, but cannot be proven false, so they can then unfairly shift the burden of proof onto us asking us to disprove the existence of God.

That's why we're "disrespectful".
Heaven is where fantasy meets hedonism. I'm on my way to where cynicism meets hedonism. If you'd like to come with me, bring something because you're not tagging along for free.

Might have something to do with the fact that only a few hundred years ago the Church would have had us tortured to death for being atheists. Now we make a logical arguments & you complain more than we ever did when you were killing us. Face it, we are now the victor & you the victim. Your god is dying. Yet we show mercy & make memes rather than burn you at the stake, you should be more grateful.

Victim implies that we're somehow reducing or victimizing the theists; I'd submit that our goal, the entire time, has been to free them from meaningless dogma, the same way that we ourselves are free of it.

There is a difference between mocking/making fun of certain beliefs/pointing out inconsistencies and being disrespectful. Just because you may not like the jokes that are made or the things they point out to "bash" your religion doesn't mean it's disrespectful. I find that any time anyone points out anything bad or wrong or inconsistent with Christianity, it's all of a sudden disrespectful. It's not though really, and Christians need to be more willing to challenge their beliefs. Also, for the most part, the only time I have seen atheists be mean or lash out against Christians here is when the Christians either threw the insults first, tried ramming their beliefs down the atheists' throats, or just flat out refused to listen to reason. Truly though, it can go both ways.
