Quote:The list goes on. The Catholic archdioceses of Boston and Washington, D.C., ended adoption programs rather than comply with laws that prevented discrimination based on sexual orientation. Some dioceses have issued guidelines that prohibit children of same-sex partners from attending Catholic schools. Effective Catholic schoolteachers who are gay have been fired. Communion has been denied. Bishops have threatened to pull support for immigration reform if same-sex couples are recognized as families. And one prominent American Cardinal even compared LGBT activists to Ku Klux Klan members.

I'm sure that they are aware that the KKK are rabid homophobes and devout xtians. Are we supposed to ignore those facts and accept the comparison blindly?

It has nothing to do with hating gays.
The Catholic church won't accept gay marriage because they can't procreate.
According to the church, its [not] a sin to be gay. It's a sin to [act] gay.
It's not natural. PERIOD
And teaching our children that it is?
Case-in-point: I have 2 friends that watched their daughters struggle in their adolescense with "gay feelings". And because they had gay family members, the teens were "nudged". Both teens have since gone back to their natural genders, and are dating men. Unfortunately one of them had reconstructive surgery.
This is happening more and more in our society! Young people are being "pushed" into major decisions, for what might "have been" just a bump in the road! Its wrong!
I've mentioned here that I have a gay daughter. We let her decide her direction on her own. Unfortunately, there was no shortage of other gays pushing her in that direction! I, and my wife bit our tongues through all of it. out of respect and love. And we are glad that she is happy now. And we love each other dearly.... despite our differences theoloically.

Just like slavery had nothing to do with hating Black people.

A lot of heterosexual marriages fail to yield children - so? The church doesn't seem to have a problem with them.
Quote:According to the church, its [not] a sin to be gay. It's a sin to [act] gay.
So no camping it up in church then. What does act gay mean exactly?
Quote:It's not natural. PERIOD
Actually it is. SEMICOLON (as valid as period in the discussion).

Encourages tolerance, acceptance and understanding

Are you talking about trans-gender? Its not clear from what you have written which implied lesbian (which doesn't require surgery). Yes - some people have gay experiences only to go on to live heterosexually, some are bisexual throughout their lives and some are and remain Lesbian. "Nudging" from an external source wouldn't have any effect were the feelings not there in the first place.

Erm....no. What is happening more and more is that LBGT people no longer have to hide what they are to live a life pretending to be heterosexual. If its a "bump in the road" then they will revert to type whatever the environment. A person's sexual or gender orientation is not determined externally.

You silly religious nuts and your imaginary sin.

Neither is air-conditioning, contact lenses, and a myriad of other things. PERIOD.

The retarded Roman Catholic Church teaches it is okay for pedophile priests to molest children, and to not be punished for their perversions.
There is nothing wrong with being gay, PERIOD. There is something wrong with ignorant religions making people feel bad for being gay. So long as there exists stupid religious people like you, I will always rally against the harm religion continually causes.

I think the idea that you accept people are a certain way, but just don't want them acting it out would mean more if the bible didn't say that both are the same thing. According to the bible, if you consider hitting someone but hold back, you may as well have hit them for all Yahweh cares. Thinking about having sex with someone, but not doing it because you know s/he doesn't want you is as bad as raping the person anyway.
There is no distinction, as far as that deity is concerned, even though there's a world of difference for the people around you, so why try to make a distinction? Either you hold the views in the book, or you don't.

I'm glad that you accepted your daughters sexual orientation.
It's just a shame that your god can't.
I guess that makes you a more moral entity than your god.
How does it feel knowing that your god is sending your daughter to hell for eternity for being the way he made her?

The Catholic church won't accept gay marriage because they can't procreate.
So they also don't accept infertile marriage? Celibate marriages? Older couples marrying? Those things aren't accepted by your church either, right? I mean, you wouldn't want to be inconsistent and reveal the fundamental dishonesty at the heart of that statement, would you?
Quote:According to the church, its [not] a sin to be gay. It's a sin to [act] gay.
How magnanimous.
Quote:It's not natural. PERIOD
That's a lie, according to actual biological facts, and no amount of all caps forceful declarations will suddenly make it true.
Quote:And teaching our children that it is?
You know what else isn't natural? Wearing clothes, spectacles, jewelry, standardized education and, most importantly, being Catholic. Still up for only educating on what's natural?

I wonder, would it have been wrong if some devout catholic adults had "nudged" some gay teens toward being straight? Or it is only wrong if this nudging happens in a direction you disagree with?

I love this stuff. The more they water down their dogma in order to gain more acceptance the more they destroy their own religion. Anything that undermines religion is a good thing in my view. I hope they just keep right on going.
