But you see, for a lowly drug addict, not faring well in prison is not much of a downgrade, whereas for this guy with such a lifestyle, the punishment is effectively so much more severe. You have to take that into account. The punishment equivalent of rotting in prison for Richards is having his favorite golf ball taken away.

When I learned about national Germany at school I remember being shocked. How could normal people not notice their country sliding into madness.
Looking back, I'm surprised I was surprised. It seems clear that in America the political and the justice systems are quite simply for sale. The rich will make the rules so that they can get richer and the gulf between rich and poor will widen. In years to come, people will look back and wonder how we didn't notice.
How long before somebody links suffrage to income. Only homeowners and tax payers should be allowed to vote, after all they are the ones contributing...

Yeah, tell me about it, those people sliding into madness are my grandparents. The peaceful landscapes of my childhood still prided themselves on being the first Judenfreie Gau just 34 years before I was born, and I am 34 now, it blows the mind! There is only one way to explain it, humans suck. The rest of the world must be acutely aware that what happened in Germany in 1871-1945 is not magically constrained to Germany, rather than only being possible there. It's tempting to think that.
