According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics for the month of February 2014, the unemployment rate in Texas is 5.7%. You can look up all the states if you want, but I didn't see any major liberal states at the low end. Here's a few examples of prominent "blue " states:

New York - 6.8
D C - 7.4
California - 8.0
Illinois - 8.7 (Obama's own)

So....what you're saying is that it's okay to execute people as long you keep unemployment down?

I was answering the myriad of comments posted concerning Texas and Rick Perry. As far as executing people goes, I think the death penalty is okay for convicted murderers according to the circumstances surrounding the crime and how much of a threat the murderer is alive. I need to do some research on the murder rate in Texas compared to states with no death penalty.

I just went to the same site and some others and it does appear that, on average, states with no death penalty have lower murder rates.

Wow Louisana has a murder rate 10x that of New Hampshire and more than 5x that of Massachusetts.

While the USA has a murder rate nearly 5 times that of Australia's on a per capita basis.

I thought the country was supposed to be going to hell and morals were disappearing and everything was getting worse because we're turning away from God. Looks like it was among the better decisions we made. If there's any causal link between the two, it's not flattering to religion.

I realize that this post may seem to be off the subject of the OP, but it is in answer the above post.

Murder and violent crimes have fallen and, if you read up on it, you'll find it's usually attributed to the aging of the population. Violent crime increased dramatically during the 60s and 70s when the baby boom generation were becoming teenagers and young adults. Older people tend to commit fewer crimes of this type. But I do agree that this a good thing and I'm not making a direct comment about the morals of athiests. But I have a great concern about these type of problems which I believe are bringing down the country:

increase in behavioral issues in classrooms
increase in the incidence of cheating in schools
increase in rape cases in schools
increase of bullying in schools
increase in children being raised in the absence of one parent

These don't portend well for the future of the country.
