Some scholars maintain that the word "behemoth" refers to hippos which were common in Egypt and would have been known widely throughout the ANE. However, hippos are notoriously irascible beasts and besides, they are known to hang out in the water for the most part.

A far more likely candidate is the elephant which was only introduced into the ANE in the aftermath of Alexander's campaign through Persia and into India. The first significant use of the elephant was at the Battle of Ipsus c 301 BC. Later on at Raphia in 217 again when Greeks were fighting Greeks in the Wars of the Diodochi. But, when it comes to the bible horseshit we really need to go all the way down to the Hasmonean era when the Seleucids used some elephants against the jews. The existence of these creatures would have made an impression on the ignorant jewish tribesmen of the time.

The idea is that Noah's flood was a local event restricted to where humans were living at the time. There was no need to flood everywhere else. It falls flat with the assumption that all humans were living somewhere in the Middle East but at least they weren't supposed to be living there with dinosaurs.
