......... ........................
bwahahaha. I wan't a fucking howitzer right now. There are some places I'd like to put under effect, safely.
I don't know wtf the range owner is talking about, firing any artillery piece at a downward angle carries the risk of tumbling or skidding the shell. They were hoping to bury it, I get it..........but it's not "unheard of", it's not even uncommon, - in fact you can force it to happen if you chose to do so. The valley in this case would only serve to funnel the shell into a fairly predictable range of possible impacts, if it did tumble or skid-; which in this case it obviously did......there were civilian structures within that range! Kelley's comment about how people ought to think about whether or not they have an appropriate area to fire this sort of thing - is dead on. "People" do think about these sorts of things. One might even risk calling these people professionals...but I see that we have our own special brand of "professionals" at the helm of this particular siege weapon.....
You want to own a howitzer but you don't wan't to demonstrate your ability? Fine. Buy one, but leave it on the range, hire an actual professional (as soon as they become available - if ever) to fire it for you - just like you would if you wanted to buy a plane without having secured a pilots license. Is that how these guys were using their cannon? In a responsible manner, the sort of manner in which a private pilot might use his plane? No. These guys were using a howitzer as "the big finish". If you've never been to one of these meets just think of the auto fire as fireworks (they're all tracered up) and the howitzer as the finale. It's spectacle, eye/ear/chest candy. If they want to call themselves professionals then fine, will only deepen the severity of the charges I'd propose. I'd jail the operators in addition to making the range owner pay for damages (also prohibit him from operating a range thereafter, pack up shop or hire someone else to run your business buddy). Reckless endangerment/criminal negligence. As a self identifying gun-nut it's clear enough to me that such charges would not be brought about -because- they "bore arms" - but because they chose to use them in a criminal manner.

So, your position is for the ban of private ownership of any firearms, correct?
You say that as if it is a bad thing.

Isn't it? Would we really disagree so much on that point? You're going to let a government that we both consider to be corrupt and unrepresentative, that attempts to stifle free speech at every turn, that habitually empowers it's own armed jack-boots (both civil and military) with rights and privileges over, above and beyond that of any ordinary citizen....tell you- that you have no right to ownership of a firearm?

Agreed, but at hand is the issue not of whether some bearded group of yokels might actually be able to overthrow a government, but the ability of a government to ignore your rights or grievances while simultaneously removing any means you may have to redress them, ultimately. I can see why a government would want to do this, I can see why a private citizen might feel that something drastic needs to be done (and I agree) but I simply cannot see why you would want to grant our government that sort of authority over us. That's without considering the issue of rebellion. Aren't we a country whose very existence was-and-is justified by the "right of revolution"? What grounds do you have to tell another that they simply cannot rebel against an unrepresentative or destructive government? That the means to do so should not be available to them?

-lol....I just noticed that the group in the picture seems to have a fetish for cowboy pistols. Watched too many episodes of gunsmoke growing up I bet. Looks like a bunch of kids playing out a fantasy - now where are all the natives when you need them?

" What grounds do you have to tell another that they simply cannot rebel against an unrepresentative or destructive government?"
Maybe you should ask Jefferson Davis that question?
More casualties struck by "Freedom Missiles."

Quote:(Reuters) – Two men armed with guns got into a dispute on New Orleans’ famed Bourbon Street early on Sunday, opening fire on one another and wounding nine people in the vicinity, police said.
Two victims were in critical condition and six others were stable, police said. The condition of the ninth victim was unknown.
The two gunmen, who do not appear to have been wounded, were being sought by the New Orleans Police Department.
Fine gunslingers that they are they managed to hit everything except what they were aiming at!

There's a shrine to that man not too far from me (used be able able to see it over the rooftops when I lived in the city). That's actually what they call it, the jefferson davis shrine. Thought you might get a kick out of that.

We just had an open carry demonstration yesterday where I live. Even though it's deep in the heart of west Texas, the streets here remained very empty all day.
A bunch of ununiformed men walking down the street with guns in plain sight makes a person very unsure of their intentions. Their argument will probably be, "See? Nobody was hurt!", as if that justifies their wacko demonstration.

Let's see what today's harvest of death...oh, excuse me, I mean "freedom" has to offer.

Quote:A 13-year-old boy was arrested on Monday and charged with reckless homicide in the shooting death of a friend, WCPO-TV reported.
The victim’s father identified him to WCPO as Hawken Hemmerle, also 13 years of age. The shooting reportedly happened inside the victim’s home when the two boys were playing with a loaded handgun.
Well, why not. The NRA treats these things as if they are toys.

Quote:A Kentucky woman gave her 5-year-old son a .22 caliber Crickett brand rifle for his birthday. This resulted in the 5-year-old killing his 2-year-old sister, Caroline Sparks.
