RE: Introduction
Welcome It is great that you still have lots of questions, and there are people here willing to answer them as best they can.

I wouldn't stress too much on starting on the wrong foot.

Welcome

I was at work when all the other stuff happened, I guess, so this is my first experience with you. I hope you stick around!
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Welcome! I have no earthly idea what you're talking about in your opening post here, but I look forward to your posts. I'll have to find your old ones to see what happened. jk Big Grin

I noticed you categorize yourself as 'agnostic.' I too did that for a time, and here's a video that you might enjoy. Someone here showed it to me, and I'm paying it forward. Heart

I don't mind if you've got a persecution complex, but telling us what we believe and then systematically knocking it down is actually insulting to those who you're trying to talk to.

How would you like it if someone just made up what you (don't) believe in and carried on touting that as factual when they hadn't even bothered to ask you what it was you actually (didnt) believe? I find it hard to believe someone with apparently so much education would fail to understand this. You also need to recognise and understand that when you combine the above with the fact you didn't introduce yourself and started thread after thread immediately after registering it marks you at as a troll. If you've been on the internet, anywhere, you'd understand this.

Meh. Whatever.Welcome to the forum all the same. You'll find you're given as much respect as is due; that is to say respect has to be gained and is not automatically given. g'day.

God vs Big Bang- Are either correct?- Assumed nothing, only shared my thoughts and asked for others to share theirs.

Darwin Proven Wrong?- Assumed nothing, only shared my thoughts and asked for others to share theirs.

Are We Living In God's "Matrix"?- Assumed nothing, only shared my thoughts and asked others to share theirs.

Playing Reality like a Video Game?- Assumed nothing, only shared my thoughts and asked others to share theirs.

Atheistic Dogma- Scientific Fundamentalism- Here, I did make an assumption, but it's based on my honest observations. Many times I find that atheist friends respond to challenges with claims that science explains things well enough that they're not questioning the possibility of a different perspective. I personally don't find that to be the case based on my explorations into many of the sciences I have studied. This thread was specifically asking for atheists to address the connection between atheist beliefs and scientific fundamentalism. I assume this is relevant considering each science has it's own category within the forum. I apologize to those that are atheists and not scientific fundamentalists. I didn't mean to insult you. If you are skeptical that science has offered good justification for your perspective, what else goes into your reasoning? I'm honestly interested.

It's amusing to me the perpetual raging on new members for "misunderstanding" the "atheist position" when at the same time people are prepared to berate and harass new members before having the courtesy to find out about them first before jumping to conclusions. People: They act just like you'd expect Smile

It does not seem proper to first introduce yourself before rambling like a know-it-all idiot?

In your clinical role, do you offer "spiritual" counseling or non? I recently looked up some interviews with Sinead O'Connor and was interested in her take on that. It's something that I felt strongly when I had counseling... that the clinicians were strictly non spiritual. I was atheist at the time by the way.

I did comparative religious study and studied ethics in spiritual counseling while I was in grad school and what I learned is that beliefs can be very healing. I learned how to respect each individual's belief system and to encourage them on their own path that leads them to healing and growth, regardless of whether I too share the opinion/belief. It seems to work well.
