is psychiatry a fake science?

I would like to try another but just don't know which one, there all going to kill me in the end I suppose.

Regarding the Op, I don't know. Is medicine a science? It makes use of science but it isn't just research. It is treatment of conditions which can be life threatening, whether the conditions are affecting the body or the mind. So whether or not it is a 'science' it serves a real need here and now.

On the other hand I've met a few psychiatrists who I didn't think much of as people. Both psychiatry and psychotherapy seem to attract a few fringe characters. But then I've met more that I respected a great deal.

One shouldn't judge a whole field by the minuscule sample space of your own experience and hearsay.

'Innocents' are boring... they're virtually unprotected targets, and they may as well be unconscious by the time you're upon them.

Asking if psychiatry is a 'fake science' is odd. It is not a science, it is a practice or treatment, so it can't be a fake science.

There are scientific fields that support the practice of psychiatric medicine, such as neuroscience, psychopharmacology, and psychology.

Sorry, no. It is a branch of medicine, not science. Medicine does not fit the definition of a science and is not considered one.

It is a practice that is, one hopes, informed by science.

I know someone who has been going to a psychiatrist for 50 years now, and he is still the same. What a waste of time and money.
I told him he should not waste his time going but it gives him a reason to get out of the house.

I was hospitalized in 2005 for a few things I have dealt with since I was a kid. That was the first time I saw a psychiatrist and dealt with the problem with psychiatric drugs.

My problem was / is not the Dr it was religion telling me it was "god teaching me" or "that evil one attacking me again". Funny thing, it never got better through prayer, and I tried. It has got better to some extent because I chose to take matters into my own hands, along with the meds.

Each person is different, so I can not speak for your friend. However, the drugs I take allow me to lead a great life with out alcohol masking everything.

Science is about understanding things, and psychology involves the study of the hardest thing to understand, the mind. Psychiatry doesn't work for everybody because it is not as simple as curing a flu, the field needs a lot more study before it can be perfected especially when the cause, symptoms and cure vary widely for each patient. But it is in no way fake, rather it is astounding that we actually have so many successes with so little understanding of the human mind.
