Life's too short to be scared of guns. If you are scared of guns, I have really bad news for you. You'll never get rid of them. We can't keep drugs out of this country or even prison for that matter. Prohibition never works. It just creates a black market with no regulations.
I agree with the principal of the 2nd amendment. It just doesn't feel relevant, because we're not dragged to the reeducation camp every time you say "fuck the system". Just because we don't need the 2nd amendment now, doesn't mean we won't need it later. The 2nd amendment may be the reason we don't need it.
Also, the police WILL NOT save you in a life threatening situation. If you are in a dangerous situation, get a gun. My grandpa used to collect rent in a junk yard and had to shoot a couple of junkies. Nothing to be proud of, but that was just part of the job.

Yeah....but you seem to overlook the fact that every state registers cars and licenses drivers. And as far as I know they all require them to carry insurance against their potential stupidity.
Maybe we could agree that guns should be treated the same as cars? I'd settle for that, Chas.
Would you?
I am happy to discuss rational proposals that address real problems.
Having liability insurance is a reasonable requirement. I'm not sure every state requires it for motor vehicles - I know that was not true some years ago.
Many states have licensing with various requirements - it's not uniform. I live in a state with quite strict licensing for firearm possession. However, possession is not the same as carrying a firearm in public.
Registration of a firearm that is carried in public is not a terrible idea. It's like registering a vehicle that's driven on public roads.
Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

Think that's going to make a blip in the pool of talent that you draw from in this thread Min? I don't. Plenty of folks gets popped for driving without a license, or with an unregistered vehicle or expired plates. I doubt that the nutballs with guns would be any more law abiding, and I bet that plenty of them with have both the license and the registration - if we handled it like we handle cars...where you just have to show up at the age of 16. Neither of those two things I think are bad ideas mind you. I'd be down at the DMV(f) the day the law was passed myself - but I wouldn't expect it to effect any change in the stuff this thread is dedicated to. Baby steps, I guess.

Not really. It's not really a proportional threat. You're just paranoid.

Soda is statistically worse for your health. You'll have to pry my soda out of my cold dead hands.
