I'd wager the 'Christianity Lite' is a big part of the decline. Why should anyone be inconvenienced in any way (like tithing or pew warming) if they are 'SAVED' anyhow ?
"Sure, Jesus is the son of God, I BELIEVE !!!" and then they go right back to their sinful ways. Those of us on the outside, though, wonder if that belief were actually sincere, those sinful ways might recede a bit, but they sure don't seem to.

I suppose if pressed I might feel sad that people are losing something. But then this natural instinct will out somehow, and I can only hope that it will be better than what we have now. People feeling interconnected and concerned about the things in life which matter, rather than selfishness and greed.

There are some pretty bad things that aren't considered sin in the bible. Even if they're not "sinning", they could still be doing horrible things.

It might be sad if it were true, but it's not in decline. Christianity is continuing to grow worldwide.

He probably means Latin America and Africa.
Catholics and evangelists are currently outsourcing to these continents, since there's still some demand for snake oil there.

Nice find, Lek. You should read it all the way through before you post it.
Quote:This apparent stability in the percentage of the global population that is Christian masks a momentous shift. Although Europe and the Americas still are home to a majority of the world’s Christians (63%), that share is much lower than it was in 1910 (93%). And the proportion of Europeans and Americans who are Christian has dropped from 95% in 1910 to 76% in 2010 in Europe as a whole, and from 96% to 86% in the Americas as a whole.
At the same time, Christianity has grown enormously in sub-Saharan Africa and the Asia-Pacific region, where there were relatively few Christians at the beginning of the 20th century. The share of the population that is Christian in sub-Saharan Africa climbed from 9% in 1910 to 63% in 2010, while in the Asia-Pacific region it rose from 3% to 7%.

Jesusism always grows where ignorance prevails. That's why it is headed for the trash heap in Europe and starting to fold even in the good ole US of A.

Unfortunately religion, in whatever form, will always be with us.
As it dies in one part of the world it seems to expand in others.
Is it any surprise the religious "right" in the West are fighting so hard against education?
