MERGED: The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ (Part 1) & (Part 2)

Quote:In all honesty, he says this is only part 1. Meant to establish Jesus' historical existence first. I'm waiting. So far it is the same old discredited bullshit that all the other assholes trot out. Clearly, God has removed the evidence in order to test the faithful. Because he doesn't know the result, yes. RE: The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ (Part 1)

As with everything he posts and argues, he's got no real clue about the finer details.
Apart from the fact that we have only copies of copies of copies .... of ancient texts, he doesn't understand that the definition of history was different back then. It didn't rely on facts but rather on an ideal. Miracles and the supernatural were part of every day life. Roman generals used to ask their augurs about the chances they would have to win certain battles and this found it's way into serious accounts of serious authors. Also, you have to take into account that the only scribes of the middle ages were actually monks and clergy. They had the task of copying what came to them and noone knows what they left out or added. We also have only vague ideas of what is lost for ever, since noone bothered to copy it. The second part of what he wants to do is even more in the realm of mythology, since the resurrection story of Jesus isn't in any way original. It's based on many ancient myths from Osiris over Horus to Mythras and many other deities that are supposed to have pulled that trick before. Quote:it would be difficult to write about the history of the Jews in first century Palestine and not mention Jesus is some way, shape, or form Not if your boy jesus was a second century invention, it isn't. Since we have no evidence of his sorry ass from the first century it looks more and more like he's just a later brain fart. Oddly, enough...according to Photius Justus of Tiberias did write a history of the jews in the first century and noted: Quote:Justus was a Jewish historian of the first century. His name doesn't appear in the list of possible sources because there are no surviving copies of his work. However, Photius, a 9th century Patriarch of Constantinople, tells us that he made no mention of Jesus. This statement is often distorted by citing only half a sentence and claiming it was an expression of 'surprise' on the part of Photius: but, as the full text shows, it is nothing of the sort. No wonder the criminal jesus freaks copied the forged TF and allowed Justus' work to fall into oblivion! (November 21, 2014 at 8:48 pm)His_Majesty Wrote: I will cut to the chase. Christians go to sleep at night with the belief that Jesus of Nazareth was crucified, and was risen from the dead. That is what Christians base our entire belief on. Now obviously, the vast majority of the members of this forum do not share such a belief...but I do, and I am here to make a case for the Resurrection based on inference, and the historical evidence that I think supports my case. And yet.... it's still just a belief. Don't you find that odd? If there was such a thing as a god turned human... shouldn't that "human", at least, live way past a normal human lifespan? Shouldn't it be able to turn itself into more humans?... in more places than the ones that were already worshiping Yahweh? Like... China, where written records would have been far more reliable. Shouldn't it have been able to keep Mohamed from gaining all the traction he did when he kick-started islam? It's almost like the whole thing is man-made and based off pre-existing beliefs, cults, superstitions and fears!! Don't you find that odd? Quote:I will cut to the chase. Christians go to sleep at night with the belief that Jesus of Nazareth was crucified, and was risen from the dead. Why do you think I therefore consider xtians to be total fucking assholes? Anybody who could believe such an absurd story is not to be taken seriously. (November 22, 2014 at 12:24 am)His_Majesty Wrote: Tools? There isn't a hardware store big enough.
