It stands very little chance to get passed, but the idea that it even gets proposed and this crazy bitch is still in office is preposterous to me.

It's not so much the chances of these things getting enshrined into law that bothers me, but that these elected officials spend the time that they're supposed to be doing their jobs hurling these loser bills at government institutions in an attempt to suicide bomb democracy into submission. Being a Republican politician seems to be the only job in the world where utterly failing at your job is still considered doing your job.

Oklahoma state rep Todd Russ wants to make it so only religious officials can officiate legally binding marriages, as a way of dodging same sex marriage laws.

Under his proposal, judges and county clerks would be unable to sign marriage licenses that have not first had the approval of a religious representative, who in his world would just deny all gays that right as a matter of course. Evidently, non-bigoted religious denominations (though one has to imagine Russ is only thinking that christian officials would be able to do this, his proposal would not possibly succeed if he outright said this) don't exist in his world.

But it's his rationale that really stands out:

You can't fix stupid, but apparently you can elect it to office.

What a load of bullshit. I am sure they mean to include Muslims as officials too.

Oh and this gets a personal "fuck you" to that asshole from me, I married my x-wife by judge and neither of us wanted a holy person as a witness.

They need to get it through their thick skulls that marriage is nothing to do with religion anymore. That is entirely optional window dressing.

Of course this comes down to religion, there are no other sensible arguments against gay marriage, which this is obviously trying to stop.
