Oklahoma Republican wants to make secular marriage impossible.

RE: Oklahoma Republican wants to make secular marriage impossible.
I didn't say black atheists didn't exist, I said they were rare, meaning that discrimination cases against them would be even rarer, that what I wanted to see evidence of.

However I had a nice chuckle at the irony of the black atheists of America facebook cover photo.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Since when is discrimination a numbers game?

You don't realize it but you are part of the problem yourself. You do the same thing Jews and Muslims do. When you point out religion as the cause they make it about race.

Now go read that book, cover to cover. The entire motif of the bible is set up like a gang with a head gang leader(God). This gang leader tells you you are his homeboys and if you defend him you will get rewarded, if you are a member of another gang, you will be defeated.

AND even in the OT, it condones taking the losers in war and turn them in to slaves and use their women as fields to be fertilized. There is no condemnation on the part of God on issues of slavery or rape, other than limits as to what you can do to them. BUT NO outright ban on either.

The reason ALL the holy books of Abraham of all three traditions were written like the were reflected a very feudal past and at that time your life literally depended more on following that tribe because the mortality rate was much higher back then. And the false concept of the success of the rulers were because of a divine hand.

You call yourself black, but you have nothing in common with an African Muslim or an Jamaican Rastafarian or a black Argentinian. And the black atheist here in America certainly have nothing in common with you other than being discriminated for for being black, on top of being atheists.

So basically you are arguing "Black atheists don't matter because they are smaller a group than blacks who do believe".

Congratulations how does it feel to be a bigot while claiming not to be one?

Where did I "basically" imply "Black atheists don't matter because they are smaller a group than blacks who do believe"?

And my reply was "Please, by all means, point it out. I can count black atheists I've heard of on like three fingers." In other words I don't know any black atheists personally, and I defiantly haven't heard of any being discriminated against, the only implications I made were for you to provide the evidence of said black atheists being discriminated against.

Instead of you providing any evidence like I requested, I'm all of the sudden a bigot? You can't be serious.

I don't call myself black, I am black, and i do share a common bond with the people you mentioned, your mistake is thinking our commonality is limited to our doctrine.

I don't call myself black, I am black, and i do share a common bond with the people you mentioned, your mistake is thinking our difference in doctrine is where our commonality ends.

Bonding is part of evolution, everyone likes to group around like minded people. But that does not make your skin tone, your political party or religion or nationality unique to evolution. Our species has always mixed and our powers shift over long periods of time, and our boarders come and go.

Japanese people didn't magically get to that island, they migrated from Asia and the Russian Islands. Native Americans are also not original to the Americas, their ancestors too migrated as well.

Long before humans started any set farming or boarders we existed and we existed in much more similar skin color and facial features during our evolution in Africa where all humans started.

And prior to that our ancestors were other primates.

And atheists don't have a "doctrine". There is no secret atheist handshake. "Atheist" merely means off on one claim. It is not a loyalty oath, it is not a religion, it is not a political party. Atheists are not monochromatic sheep who follow each other merely based on a label.

It's not, I agree.

It is limited to your skin color and your doctrine combined.

I am wondering if you are the type of black person who attends a multi-racial church or one that is all black.

A religion used to justify keeping generations of your ancestors in chains, and generations more of virtual serfdom. A religion used as a weapon against your generation by people who think you're just some animal waiting for a chance to commit crimes, people who hope you get shot because of your skin color and will cheer the killer if it happens.

Why on earth would you choose to involve yourself in a system used in this country to minimize you as a human being?

Just to put these folks out there. The last Sunday in February (Feb 22) is the Day of Solidarity for African American humanists.

Religion had nothing to do with slavery, that was pure greed. The love of money is the root of all evil. You think the Catholic church, for instance, committed atrocities for religious reasons? No, it was all about the money, religion was just a cover. They invented things like purgatory, and indulgences (neither are biblical)to essentially con the people out of their money, since people generally couldn't read the Bible for themselves (especially since it was in Latin). The translation of the Bible into English by John Wycliffe angered the Catholic church so much, that, 31 year after he was already dead, they dug up his body and burned it.

Also did not greed cause Judas to betray Jesus?

In correlating slavery with religion, we do a disservice to the abolitionists who fought against slavery (some paying with their lives) by grouping them together.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Brown_...tionist%29
Quote:John Brown (May 9, 1800 – December 2, 1859) was a white American abolitionist who believed armed insurrection was the only way to overthrow the institution of slavery in the United States. During the 1856 conflict in Kansas, Brown commanded forces at the Battle of Black Jack and the Battle of Osawatomie. Brown's followers also killed five slavery supporters at Pottawatomie. In 1859, Brown led an unsuccessful raid on the federal armory at Harpers Ferry that ended with his capture. Brown's trial resulted in his conviction and a sentence of death by hanging.

Just as an aside -- we're happy to have you. The country needs more hard-nosed thinkers.

(January 31, 2015 at 4:16 pm)Huggy74 Wrote: My point was, to correlate racism with Christianity is nonsense, Black Christians are discriminated against by white Christians, that's just plain old racism [...]

Firstly, religious beliefs and racism correlate:

Quote:A meta-analytic review of past research evaluated the link between religiosity and racism in the United States since the Civil Rights Act. Religious racism partly reflects intergroup dynamics. That is, a strong religious in-group identity was associated with derogation of racial out-groups. Other races might be treated as out-groups because religion is practiced largely within race, because training in a religious in-group identity promotes general ethnocentrism, and because different others appear to be in competition for resources. In addition, religious racism is tied to basic life values of social conformity and respect for tradition. In support, individuals who were religious for reasons of conformity and tradition expressed racism that declined in recent years with the decreased societal acceptance of overt racial discrimination. The authors failed to find that racial tolerance arises from humanitarian values, consistent with the idea that religious humanitarianism is largely expressed to in-group members. Only religious agnostics were racially tolerant.

This supports your point.

Secondly, it goes against your point, insofar as it demonstrates that religion tends to support racism, as part of an in-group/out-group psychology.
