Brick-top actually that voice in your head is you practicing a little bit of inward reflection.Prayer in the traditional christian sense also falls under the category of worship or as you said praise. The Christian god loves to have himself reminded by his worshippers how great and powerful and merciful he is etc. etc.The more charismatic groups of Christianity use prayer also to ask their god for guidance in many mundane and worldly affairs.
In fact christians are encouraged through the scriptures to pray to their god and ask for his assistance in spiritual and worldly affairs.
Matthew 21:22:
22And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
Matthew 11:28-30 encourages you to place your burdens on the Lord
28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
