Since most Southern Baptists are social/cultural conservatives and vote Republican, this will strike them as just another dismissible liberal ploy. As admirable a man (and ex-President) as I find Carter to be, he remains one of the conservatives' favorite whipping boys. Many will do exactly that. Others won't. Rather than complain about the ones who will not change, I'd rather enjoy the fact that some will. Progress comes one steps at a time. (April 23, 2015 at 2:04 pm)Minimalist Wrote: No shit! Carter's attitude has changed. In 1945 he likely acquiesced in or supported all the sexism he condemns in 2009. But I don't see why changing over time as life lessons are learnt would make someone a hypocrite. The SBC has gotten vocal over the years, becoming more political party than church clearinghouse.
...Burqas. A business opportunity awaits in upscale ladies' fashions at the Al Faisaliyah Mall in Riyadh. The models shown above are rather stiff even by Saudi standards, which permit the eyes to be exposed through a slit in the abaya, which is always black, and worn on the head as accessory to the normal long dress. Burqas are just too Bedouin for wealthy urban women, these look Afghani ca. 1950. But they're making a comeback lately in many countries, in new colors and styles. Changing one's mind about something is different from hypocrisy, but it seems common these days to call someone a hypocrite when really the person just changed his or her mind. It is as if people wanted to encourage others to continue being wrong, instead of embracing improvements. As I stated previously, better late than never. Earlier, of course, would be better still, and even better than that would be to never have been wrong. But, still, better late than never, so Carter is obviously better than many people. Carter is backsliding. Liberalization of christer dogma makes it more appealing to the masses.
Let's admonish him to hold fast to all the scripture warts and be a total sexist pig, just like the Bibble says. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Christianity keeps mutating like a fucking cold virus.
We will never be rid of it. The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
