2015 UK General Election

RE: 2015 UK General Election
I'll be voting SNP. If I was living in the rest of the UK I would vote Green.

@MrNoMorePropaganda: yes, I'm sure. First priority is to evict the incumbent bastards. Besides which, as a dyed-in-the-wool socialist, the day I vote Tory is the day I need shooting.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

One of my biggest regrets in life is voting Tory a few months before my 18th birthday. No idea why but I got sent a voting slip early. I took it very seriously and weighed up John Major vs Neil Kinnock but my parents were Tories and I wasn't worldly enough to know how divisive Thatcher was. In my defence though I very nearly voted Monster Raving Looney party or kept the voting slip as a means to buy alcoholic drinks.

Holy shit, what is this?

For real, Milliband is trying to censor free speech? I can't believe it! What a fucking moron. It's a terrible idea, and that's got to cost him votes surely unless he is sucking up to the Muslim population I guess.

Wow. Definitely no labour then. That is proper mental. I always found him a bit dodgy, but that's way over the line.

Edit: I'm a bit confused after reading that article. Is he talking about making criticism of Islam into "hate speech"? Of course no one should be discriminated against, or attacked, or hate speeched against; I thought we already had laws regarding that. What is he getting at? If he is saying I can't slag off the Quran, he is proper nuts.

Islamophobia: irrational fear of Islam. This is going to be made a crime!? "That guy looks irrationally scared! Book him!"

Can anyone translate what milliband is proposing into something that makes sense?

Something that isn't already covered by discrimination and hate speech laws?

Also, what's special about Islam? Why isn't Christianity or FSM getting the same laws?

I did some more searching about this, and it seems to be that bad: Labour want to fuck with free speech! I am gobsmacked. I really hope I've got this wrong.

http://www.express.co.uk/comment/columni...-McKinstry

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/41...-c-w-cooke

Is this going to change anyone's opinion who was going to vote Labour? I couldn't vote for this trash. Can he really get away with this?

How the fuck do you justify protecting one religion like this? This is an insult to what happened with Charlie trying to stand up for free speech.

Fuck Islam. Fuck the Quran. Fuck Allah and his fake Jesus. Fuck all the backward, sexist, homophobic, divisive, violent aspects of this ridiculous religion. How much of a pussy is Allah if he needs Milliband to protect him?

Someone tell me I've got this wrong. Milliband seems confused and deranged, and it's hard to pinpoint exactly what he is proposing.

All of the parties are doing it. You know we have a law that effectively outlaws criticising religion yes?

https://www.gov.uk/government/publicatio...d-act-2006

As someone who has studied religion as part of a research degree I know first hand the lengths that political candidates will go to to kowtow to religious sensibilities. That legislation is fucking insane and is one of the worse pieces of law I've ever seen drafted and pushed through parliament.

No party will deviate from it because we've somehow managed to instill in our general social cohesion discourse that a big part of that is not offending anyone.

As to how I will vote, I'm an advocate of green policies being pushed up the agenda but I think the green party is fucking nuts. Completely unrealistic goals in envorinmental issues which also happen to be complete unfunded, even with scrapping Trident. I'm 100% pro nuiclear, as it's the only viable 'clean' energy source we have going at the moment, and the Greens want to scrap that, so if you enjoy blackouts then Green is the party for you (not to mention their leader is useless *cough* radio 4 interview).

So I will probably spoil my vote or vote Lib Dem as they're the only party that I sort of like (I'm also not hung up on the whole tuition fee bollocks like most people who don't know how tuition fees work).

BTW, if people want to see where the parties stand on religious issues, this is a good chart:

RE: 2015 UK General Election
Interesting. Thanks, I didn't know about that law. Has it done anything in practice? It seems rather vague. Does it cover calling a religion ridiculous and criticising its harmful aspects?

I agree Green have some mental ideas. At the moment they probably won't win, so I feel voting for them will promote the overlooked agendas that they care about. I want to give them more of a voice. The only other options does seem to be lib dem, as all the other 3 really suck in one way or another.

Hopefully if/when they get into real contention they'll review their more wild policies which people probably haven't scrutinised much until now.

Unfortunately no, I can't. But I can point out the pointless nature of trying to converse with 'Muslim' community reps like this article's author/editor. It ties in with the victim mentality I mentioned in the black people thread started by Napo.:

"Challenged about the way particularly Muslim charities have been targeted by banks and discredited by the media, Miliband said in his wide ranging interview that he was “not in favour of demonising anyone (and) that is the wrong thing to do.”

I presume the author is referring to, among other things, the singling out the CAGE charity by Government as an organisastion with ties to extremism:

http://cageuk.org/

CAGE has been outed as a pro-extremism and terrorist apologist organisation guilty of organising rallies in support of other extremist organisation with Islamist agendas:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/t...error.html

Apologists for CAGE are always shouting about nefarious intentions in an attempt to discredit a Muslim charity, yet any charity with obvious and demonstrable ties to extremism would come under governmental scrutiny. The fact that Miliband didn't spot this obvious apologist ploy astounds me, considering Asim Qureshi (research director at CAGE) himself was outed on BBC's 'this Week' as an apologist and supporter of extremism by Andrew Neil & Alan Johnson (former Labour Minister):

Slimey character, slimey organiastion.

RE: 2015 UK General Election
Thanks again for the info Smile

I hope enough people in Britain care about free speech and not protecting religion to avoid voting for labour. It could be a massive mistake, and I can only assume he's trying to suck up to Muslim voters. He is coming off as ignorant and mental on this issue.

I wonder what the UK Christians feel about this special treatment for Islam? I wouldn't be happy if I was one.
