Thanks for what appears to have been a compliment SteelCurtain.
I guess the method to my madness is the fact that this forum is exactly what I was looking for in order to meet like-minded people and discuss what are normally classified as controversial topics.

Yuhp.
I was literally just listening to the eponymous Ben Folds Five last night. Love that album. Not into the album that came out last year where he got together with the band. It was sadly like a 45 year old trying to recreate the punky off beat magic that was Ben Folds Five.
I dunno; I saw them live at HOB in SD for that tour, and they were awesome. I also saw Ben at the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Philharmonic last year and it was... awe-inspiring.

#1: Led Zeppelin (I know they are not perfect and have had a lot of controversy based around them and their music, but I love them)
#2: Rolling Stones (Their music never fails to get me pumped)
#3: The Doors (A rather odd choice, but I love them nonetheless)
Honorabe Mentions (favorite newer bands): Imagine Dragons, Linkin Park, and Ed Sheeran.
Linkin Park? You have now fallen out of favor. Ugh. Yuk. Bad. Ew.
Other than that, I approve mostly. Incidentally, the old dude who owns my favorite medical marijuana dispensary has a son who was in Imagine Dragons. He told me the other day he's now in AWOLNation, but I'm having a hard time confirming it.

Any time he does something with a Philharmonic, the results are amazing. I like his live albums better as a rule.
I haven't seen him on tour for the latest album. If he comes to Nashville, I'll check him out.

I'm sorry that my musical taste differs from yours.
Linkin Park is far from my favorite band (since most of my favorite artists are considerably older than myself). However, I do enjoy quite a few of their songs. Oh well...to each their own, right?

No. Not when it comes to Linkin Park. Ugh. Ick. Blech.

Well darn. I suppose that my only options now are either to forsake our possible future friendship or to convert to Anti-LinkParkism.

I think you are not looking at the matter in the correct way.

I can't limit myself to three, that's just horseshit and I won't do it!
But, in no order, and without counting --
Took prog and gave it balls, took metal and gave it brains -- you choose:
Two guitars playing together never sounded so beautiful, and with impressionistic lyrics that leave you wondering what it means to you:
Elliot Easton on guitar. That's enough for me, the sonofabitch turns in one of my favorite solos here (at 3:04), with a nod to John Coltrane:
Sabbath has already been mentioned several times, and Jimi as well -- and I'll get back to this thread with some Jeff Beck and Eric Johnson. All of those guys knock it out. Also, I will clearly have to start a jazz and blues thread soon, because those are the two genres which speak to me most nowadays.
Great thread!

I second a jazz and blues thread. I'd weigh in more on the blues side, but I could stand to learn more jazz.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
"I don't hang around with mostly men because I'm gay. It's because men are better than women. Better trained, better equipped...better. Just better! I'm not gay."
For context, this is the previous verse:
"Hi Jesus" -robvalue
