Game of Thrones Season 5 Discussion [SPOILERS WITHIN]
RE: Game of Thrones Season 5 Discussion [SPOILERS WITHIN]
Fuck his father, IMO. His father set up the whole deal with Tysha, and then fucked Shea. That wasn't Jaime's doing. Tywin never acknowledged Tyrion's claim to Casterly Rock once Cersei was queen and Jaime was a Kingsguard.

He made Tyrion the ward of the cisterns and drains at Casterly Rock as an insult.

And fuck Shae as well. She betrayed him to Cersei and Tywin in the worst way, at the worst time. Then she fucked Tywin. Fuck them both. Deserved what they got.

Oh no, I totally understand WHY he murdered his father. Tyrion is the victim of some serious abuses from his father, his whole life long. It's one thing that makes Tyrion so interesting, that even his own family treats him like garbage, yet he is the best of them. His father was a quiet monster, and we can at least partly blame Cersie's messed up world view on Tywin as well, really.
(And in the TV show we don't even get the horrid EXTRA backstory on Tysha from Jamie. I wonder if that will ever be included in the TV show? He's looking for her...will he find her and find the truth?)

Shae never cared about Tyrion, she was just using him to get shiny baubles and a silk sheets and pretty dresses. So yea, I understand Tyrion's motivations and am sympathetic, that's why they better not kill him off lightly. He's one of, if not THE, most nuanced characters in the series.

I was just responding to the idea that killing Tywin was a hit on Tyrion's morality. Tongue

I am torn as to whether Shea really cared for Tyrion or not. It seems she took him trying to protect her by disguising her and trying to ship her as far away from Tywin and Cersei as possible pretty hard. He was so scarred by the Tysha thing that he would do anything to prevent it from happening again.

I think she was spurned. She cared for him.

I was torn on Shae in the TV show at first, but it showed how hard she resisted being turned into a maid, how much she resented losing the good life Tyrion had made for her. She refused to believe it was to keep her safe, and was quite nasty to him for a while after, only being nice again to get what she wanted from him. She wasn't a monster, so I suppose she grew to care for him a little, but really, looking back over the series, I think she was just using him. But, this is all guessing. In the books or the TV show, we never get a POV from his lover, so we have to guess her motivations based on her actions.
If she gave a slight crap about Tyrion, she would have gotten on the boat, instead of going to sleep with his dad. That's what I think anyway.

Yeah, we never get a POV, but I think the times when it was just them, she said things and shared things that showed that she cared. It's still a 3rd person, even though we call it a POV.

Yeah, if they kill him, it had better be something worthwhile, not some stupid death.  Something epic for the Lannister with the biggest brain, biggest heart, and the most morals (despite murdering his father and ex-lover).

Wow, it's really crazy when you think about the people we are cheering on here...lol

Giggle I think about that all the time. Am I really cheering for a paranoid arrogant prideful woman to rule Westeros?  No Idea

I think it is just fun imagining the worst or best versions of ourselves and others and maybe that's why we identify with and/or love certain characters, even when we shouldn't  Tongue

I think Shae did care for Tyrion. She just cared more about herself, that's all  Sad Undecided

I wasn't overly fond of Shae, for reasons unknown…until she betrayed Tyrion. For some reason, I really like Tyrion. I mean, he isn't my favorite character, but he is a pretty damn good one.

From what I gather, Shae did care for Tyrion.... but she wanted to be with him.
However, Tyrion, as hand of the king, had to reside in the tower of the hand... and Shae, as Tyrion's whore, could not.
So Tyrion set her up as best he could... in the books, she stays at a nice house, alone and without seeing Tyrion for days at a time; in the show she becomes Sansa's maid, also not seeing Tyrion for days.

With that, she feels abandoned, I guess... And refuses to go even further away from Tyrion when he asks her (because Joff died and stuff)... and then she ends up in court, testifying against Tyrion... perhaps with a few incentives from Tywin...
I guess it was this betrayal that made Tyrion kill her.

Back to book world.
On the subject of Tysha, just prior to his release, Jaime tells Tyrion that Tysha was not a whore and that she really loved Tyrion. Tyrion then sidetracks to meet his father and ask him where he can find Tysha. He just says something like "how should I know? She's probably where whores go."
So Tyrion doesn't like it that his dad called his once truly loving wife a whore and then it happens just like in the book, a crossbow shot in the chest... and it turns out Tywin Lannister does not shit gold.
And, on the way to meet Daenerys, Tyrion is also trying to find Tysha... wherever whores go... which lands him on a brothel in Volantis... and Jorah Mormont finds him and takes him... errr... to see Daenerys, as a gift of repentance.

On the book, we see the kidnapping from Tyrion's point of view, so we don't know who is taking him, we just know he's a westeros man. It's one of those things that come off really well in book format, but can't work on the screen.

I guess with Shae it's like a love-hate relationship. She did love him, but she got clingy and maybe a little jealous when he wasn't around. Being in a situation like that can lead to conflicted emotions that can come off cold and hateful. You also have to consider how powerful Tywin was, she was probably scared he'd punish her if she didn't do as he said.
