Climate change

I have been recently undergoing a possible de-conversion. I still have some clingers that make me double guess my doubts though. One I mentioned was the seemingly regressing conditions of mankind. But one poster (Aractus) made mention of how climate change isn't a valid fear. This surprised me because I thought that the only people who didn't fear climate change as an imminent threat to humanity were the bible thumping conservatives that happen to do the bidding for large corporations. Not atheists though, never! So I would like to know what seems to be the more consensus view of scientist today. Do the majority believe that the earths warming is just a natural cycle that may or may not be sped up by humans? Do climate scientist believe there is any imminent harm to human kind? Are the statistics shown in a fear mongering way just to sell newspapers?
Just for clarification about my own views... I believe it is a future harm to humans and caused by them

-The myth of the golden age, talk to the greeks about that one..if only people had payed their proper respects to zues....we'd still be in the lap of luxury on that count.

Don't sweat the controversy over warming. The decline in alkalinity of the ocean's water is going to be an enormously bigger problem than a little extra warmth ever could.
And that problem isn't on anybody's radar.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

It's clear that climate is too complicated a system for our current simulations to reliably predict anything. Therefore we can freely mess with it without worrying about consequences, because who knows. And as Vorlon says, how convenient would it be if the oceans got converted to a big soda pop.

This is very simple.
You have a pain in your side so you go to a physician. He examines you and tells you you have lymph node cancer. You are not happy. So what do you do? Do you go to an auto mechanic and ask his opinion? Not if you have a fucking brain. You might go to another physician - perhaps one specializing in oncology. He tells you the same thing. So you go to another physician and get the same sad news. Just to be sure, you see yet another specialist and she tells you you have lymph node cancer. It really sucks but what do you think you should do? Maybe it would be a good idea to start getting treatment for lymph node cancer?
See? Very simple.

There was little to no oxygen (carbon dioxide was prominent) before the algae evolved. It would seem that all lifeforms impact the environment and the earth is still here.

I agree that the decline in alkalinity of the ocean's water is of greater concern. Among climate scientists, yes there are some that are convinced there is an imminent threat (think Michael Mann). On the other hand, most people who are convinced there's an imminent threat are NOT climate scientists (think Al Gore or Tim Flannery). And there are plenty of climate scientists who do not think that it's the grave threat that it's made out to be by the IPCC.
Tim Flannery's company Geodynamics Limited got grants from the Australian government totalling $90 million to develop geothermal energy - which they never did:

Despite the fact that they said to federal Australian government in 2002 that it would be a relatively straightforward process to do.
As I mentioned in the other thread, in 1,000 years from now if all the glacial ice has melted yes sea levels will rise I think it's 20 feet or something like that. BUT, the world will be much greener, there'll be less desert, and overall we will have more fertile, healthy land. So there will be negative effects of climate change, but there will also be hugely positive effects also.
Anyway, yes vorlon13 I think we do need to think about the health of the oceans as a primary concern for the Environment.

Yeah, like the vast majority of them, spread across every country of the world.
Listen Aractus, I respect you as an individual but if I get a cancer diagnosis, I am not the least bit interested in your opinion - because you are not qualified to have an opinion on that. I might seek the opinion of someone else - someone who IS qualified. If I do that and get the same opinion and repeat this again and again, I would be STUPID to not begin cancer treatment.
This is the situation with climate change. Even the fucking oil industry admits it. It's a done deal.
