You forgot the hard work.

... and as the proverb goes, luck is where preparation meets opportunity ... which takes us back to the issue of how much opportunity there is, and whether a person with enough willpower can manufacture opportunity.

You forgot the hard work.
All the hard work in the world wont help you if aren't lucky.

Oh, sure, but hard work is an essential component of rags to riches stories. Yes, rags to riches people do get lucky, but it's not like they're just sitting on their ass and it all magically falls in their lap.

How about a rags to Rhonda story? I was born with a wooden spoon in my mouth. While my friends had money at the end of the month, I had month at the end of the money. Then one day I got smart. I went to the bank. Told my driver to keep the motor running in case we had to leave in a hurry. Of course, I had to hide for a while. Think. My money problems aren't over cause there's only so much I can buy with money I'm not supposed to have. And the police are still asking questions, so I just want to kinda lay low.
You didn't hear this from me.

What's the difference between luck and god?
"I got no luck."
"It wasn't god's will."
Same difference to me. You can if you want to but I will not sit back and be an innocent by-stander in my own life.
I'm 5 years old, and you can't stop me.

"Luck' as synonymous with random chance might be a little easier to digest.
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

The only "sguander" I see is not that others obtain more than others. The "squander" I see is those who gain more don't want o accept that the flight takes off at the same time as the poor and the landing is still the same.

In that case, nobody is lucky since random chance is, by definition, random. I can feel lucky but that's no different from feeling that it's god's will for me to play the lottery tonight.
