@ padpriac, despite what is common to assume about me, I don't structure every area of my life around Biblicaldoctrine, It's a common enough secular euphemism that Money s the root of all evil, but I would have to agree that it's not specific enough and if there is absolute good and evil , want for something other than God's will would be the root of all evil, IMO.That would of course include religion as we now see it, tele-evangelism, want of money, avarice, lust, poitics, etc.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
always working on cleaning my windows- me regarding Johari
I'd have to go with 'thinking you'll get away with it' is the root of all evil.
You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid. Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis.
Christianity is the root of all evil, organized religion, self loathing, dogma, and much much more!
There is nothing people will not maintain when they are slaves to superstition

God is the root of all evil, since he supposedly created us

The aware fool is teachable. The unaware fool is not. EG literalist fundies and other dogmatic ignoramuses. We have several here.
You've got to be my favorite show running Padraic. I think I am likely to be of these aforementioned ignoramususus, but I really do enjoy reading what you have to say.
The point was made very well that the whole quote does include the 'love of money' as being base. And also well made that since money, and modern money in particular, is a symbolic object, the real prolbem is attachment to falsehood. I would suppose the root of all evil is the same as the root of all good. Even if they only exist in the human world, they seem to be yet more constructs of the world in and around us. If there is good and evil it would be like evolution, an almost accidental conclusion from all the necessary precluding rules and systems. Oui? I would say that the root of evil is untruth and dysfunction, being that the root of good is truth (factual exactitude with objective reality) and function (fucking pragmatism, but just a pinch). Good thread, thank you, -Pip |
