Coroner: Nigerian college student’s death in Georgia jail a homicide

Matthew Ajibade, 21, was put in a restraining chair in an isolation cell after fighting with deputies on Jan. 1 and was later found unconscious, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said.

An autopsy by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation revealed his death was caused by “blunt force trauma” with injuries to his head. The Chatham County coroner’s office said on Thursday it had been ruled a homicide.
No one has been criminally charged. Nine sheriff’s deputies were fired in early May over the incident, and the case is due to be presented to a grand jury later this month, said Mark O’Mara, the family’s lawyer.

LA jury finds cop guilty of assaulting a handcuffed black woman in his patrol car who later died

A jury found a white Los Angeles police officer guilty on Friday of assault for kicking and shoving a handcuffed black woman who was in the back of a patrol car and later died after complaining that she could not breathe.

Officer Mary O’Callaghan had been charged with assault under color of authority but not with the subsequent death of 35-year-old Alesia Thomas, who was being arrested for child abandonment when she lost consciousness in the vehicle in July 2012.
O’Callaghan, 50, was taken into custody and faces up to three years in prison when she is sentenced on July 23.

But even here, we see the prosecutor making sure she gets a slap on the wrist.

Those are both old, drone use in police enforcement is now fairly routine compared to just a few years ago when the very notion was (rightly) alarming. They're replacing traffic cops left right and center, at the moment...so we still have some time before they get around to replacing the shooters. I'm sure they'll be "non-lethal" drones.....20mm beanbags and shit..... -at first-.

Soon after news of the gift-wrapped drones spread, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck was forced to declare that his department wouldn't actually be using them—not just yet, anyway. “I will not sacrifice public support for a piece of police equipment,” he proclaimed, saying he would seek input from the public before ever allowing a drone to fly over the city.
