1) He's dead, the end, in which case, I agree, screw this show and the books too. His plot was set up to be much more important to the overall story. Like, why do we care who his mom and dad really are if he just dies and is not longer important to the story? Whatever.
2) Kit is lying and will get rezzed next season somehow, because it's a cliffhanger, and he's not going to say, "well yeah, 'course I'm not really dead, see you guys next season!), it pretty well ruins their cliffhanger. They want people pissed off and wondering all year, it will make people come back and see what happens next season.
3) KIT won't be back next year (so he's not lying) but his character isn't dead-dead. This would be like if he warged into his wolf, or maybe if they set his body outside the gates and the WW come get him and turn him into an "other", WW, or maybe even the new Nights King of some such, in which case they may just CGI his character from now on.
I'm guessing it's #2. But in this screwed up universe it could be anything really.
If it's anything other than 2 then I'm not watching the show. I'm not wasting anymore time being invested in the story and characters to see them completely butcher it beyond all reason.
I think the directors of the show are fucking things up to be honest. I've been thinking it since the start of the season, and more so as this one's gone on. A lot of the time they put bullshit nudity in there for no apparent reason besides "look! Tits!". I mean, tasteful nudity, sex scenes where appropriate, sure. But I've not seen the need for a single piece of nudity this season besides possibly Cersei's walk of shame. Even then they dragged it out for as long as possible so we could see as much tit as possible. Besides that they've just sort of dragged other shit out for longer than necessary too. Perhaps that's also the books fault, but a lot more things seem to be happening that either make no apparent sense or that are just plain boring the ever loving fuck out of me.
They also love dragging out their rape scenes too. I mean, anyone else get the sense that the directors just like living out their fantasies with this any chance they get? What in the fucking fuck was that prison scene with Bronn all about too? Again, just an excuse to see more dragged out, cringeworthy nudity. I wouldn't mind if the new actresses/actors they introduced this series were any good, but again, this season they've been shockingly bad IMO.
I swear GoT was better than this.

(Just kidding, actually ) she (Nell Tiger Free, which is indeed her name) is 15 now (probably 14 during filming), turns 16 on October 1.
...According to wikipedia! I swear I haven't memorized her birthday!...
.........only Dakota Fanning's........
Well 15's legal in France
And if something's legal in one place it should probably be legal everywhere, right?... right?!?
The Targaryens did it all the time! probably

Napo... napo, napo, napo, napo.... Imagine investing the time to read 4000+ pages of a series of books only to see one of the main characters killed off, another blinded, another in slavery, another captured... not to mention the countless other characters that got axed along the way...
Remember Maester Luwin? Yeah.... I kinda liked the guy...
And yet, the story goes on.
The story is not about characters... it's about the world where the characters live and die... and the world goes on. Each death sends that world tumbling, but it ends up finding a new footing.
I think George is building a believable world, where death is a very real threat for any living creature, unlike the standard fairytale world where our heroes are always rescued at the last minute.
Sure, I'd like to see Jon revived... and I'd like to know what was so special about his parents... but George doesn't really have to tell us those things for this story of ice and fire to come a conclusion.
Ice and Fire - Dragons and whitewalkers - everything else is filler!

I know, man! It's almost like the author of the book is wrapping up the second act of the series and is about to let these character you love that are all in truly shitty circumstances suddenly start busting out cans of whoop-ass in the coming third act or something...
Seriously, though, this all looks right on track with standard story structure.

Yeah!!! I hear, you sister!
It's like that time when Ned's head got chopped off... it was only so the hero could emerge, his son, Rob...
Then he got a gift from the Lannisters in the form of his loyal bannerman, Roose Bolton... oh... another hero would emerge... err.... who was the next in line in that arc? Oh Sansa! getting utterly humiliated by Joffrey... and then fleeing that little cunt's death scene with her knight in shining armor... who leads her to the master puppeteer, Littlefinger.
So... the hero is Littlefinger?
Nah, the story started north of the wall and that's where it must end. Littlefinger can't take on the whitewalkers.
So the hero is Jon... who's dead, apparently... so the hero is the whole Night's watch, composed of some of the vilest people in Westeros.
Or maybe the real hero is Bran, who'll learn to control the Whitewalkers... maybe... Or he'll control dragons... we'll see...

I wonder, would your reactions be the same if Daenerys was killed off in as equally a shit manner as Jon Snow appears to be?

Sure.
Then Tyrion could get to be in charge of Meereen... he takes care of the 2 remaining dragons and then rides them back to king's landing to get Cersei and the WhiteWalkers! Perfect!

Jon Snow doesn't have a Tyrion, or any other character with as much screen time to fill the obvious void in the plot he was involved in however. And even if he did, even if it were Daenerys, it doesn't negate what an epic time waste it is that a character has so much screen time to have such an inconsequential death. The only real way his death would make sense if he were brought back later on in some form. At least in my opinion. Otherwise his plot, the entire plot of the night's watch turns into a stub. It's different to when Rob died, or when Ned died, because both of those plots deepened. It was instantly foreseeable how the deaths of each character would lead on to other things. Jon Snow's death just undoes a great deal of story development, completely destroys any purpose or point to his story and frankly, turns out to be a massive waste in time for all involved.

Random thought - did anyone else get a 'Darth Vader killing Emperor Palpatine' vibe when Reek finally snapped and gave She-Ramsay a lift?
