All Hail the Second Amendment

That sounds so logical.  But go back through this thread and find any number of instances where accidents occurred at police training ranges where supposedly competent instructors have shot themselves or others.

You cannot guard against stupidity, complacency and carelessness.  These are not factors of training.

By and large I consider police to be morons.

Like this asshole.  He was in a classroom.  Instead of injuring himself, he could have killed a student.  I both agree and disagree.  While I believe this is a training issue (wouldn't have happened to anybody I deployed with -but they're not fucktards), I have to concede that you can't fix stupid.

Honestly, your average hunter has a huge 1 up on most police.  There's usually more experience handling the firearm, they shoot more often, they have a better understanding of how the thing actually works (above and beyond which end the bullet comes out), and they routinely have to be aware of exactly where they're shooting, and the various hunter safety courses.  When killing a deer for example, you must make sure not to hit another deer behind it.  I don't believe police have similar attitudes.  You also need be a good shot so you don't chase the thing for 5 miles or make it suffer*

Cops get trained, once?  Then re-qualify on a yearly basis?  I've shot my pistol more in the last 6 months than most cops have in the last 2 years.

I think the main issue with .22 is that it's such a popular caliber, but cannot be reloaded.  Every prepper out there has the ability to load 7.62, 9mm, 45acp, and the various shotgun calibers.  Sad though.  I ended up selling my .22 rifle because it was pointless to own it.

I didn't sell mine, but I did buy a 17wsm.  See what happens, you make bullets scarce and people buy -moar guns-..., so they can use whatever meager collection of ammo remains, lol. Had to cut back a bunch on shooting though, since I can't pop em off for 5cents a shot anymore. Really sucks. Get more time with my black powder rifle, now, though. I just go fish the balls out of the tree stumps, and they're unlikely to stop selling fishing sinkers anytime soon...lol.

Yet, it happens.

Quote: Georgia police are hunting for the gunman whose celebratory Fourth of July gunfire killed a 16-year-old honor student relaxing in her own home.

Rasheedah Evans was watching in the living room of her Fulton County home Saturday night when a stray bullet pierced through a wall and hit her behind the ear, police said.

What I'm always suspicious about is that we only hear about the ones which cause bodily injury or, occasionally, property damage.  If some dumbass is playing with his gun and blows a hole in his own back wall but hits no one or nothing what are the odds that he will then call the police and report himself?

Fairly slim, I'd say.

We have no idea how many times this shit actually happens.

When I still had my 1911, the defense loads were 2.50$ a shot.

Just by the sheer number of gun owners in america, I'd say probably a lot.

Celebratory gunfire?  WTF.  Yeah that's an issue.  But again, the negative stories get a lot of ink.

There are plenty of careless hunter stories in here, too.

And, apropos to your comment about cops being morons....

Yeah, because that's never fucking happened, eh?

Accidentally shot him on turkey hunting trip, eh?  I'm going to take a hell of alot of convincing, more convincing than this MacDonald guy, for sure.

Fair enough.  People can be careless.  Not a lot different than careless/drunk drivers taking out a family at random.

Accidentally shot him in the face?  Dodgy  Sure... Angel

Do you remember that commercial from years ago about celebratory gunfire?

Bunch of Mexicans shooting bullets into the air while celebrating something and then they all run away when someone shouts "Ze bullets" and all the bullets come down?

Didn't last long.
