If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

summerqueen, remember when you started a thread about joining a meetup group? I then complained about not having any atheist groups in the area, and you told me to quit complaining and just start one (in other words). So, I did, and coming from a small town made up of mostly religious fundies, I am impressed and proud to say we have 23 members aboard (we started in July). Having this group was important, since being atheist in an area like this makes you an outcast, really. I have made great friends there and just wanted to say thank you for the great tip! Big Grin It might not grow like meetup groups in bigger cities, but fuck, we have a great time together and I couldn't ask for more. Smile

That's fantastic!

If there's anything I've learned by being a part of my group, it's that the more solidarity atheists feel by being together in a group, and having a support network, the more confident they feel about coming out to their larger communities, which eventually means more acceptance, tolerance, and better treatment all around. Some people may argue that, but we've been getting more and more positive responses from random people even after they find out that the volunteers are the local atheist group.

Keep it going! Like I said, you never know when being the non-church group will help that non-church goer who just need friendship and a boost.
