The Official "Damned Trump" Thread
RE: The Official "Damned Trump" Thread
Trump is now saying that the FBI search of Mar-A-Lago was actually an attempt to find Hillary’s missing emails (as if he wouldn’t be shrieking them into every ear that would listen).

Truth Social Android app not approved on Google Play Store

Former U.S. President Donald Trump's social media platform Truth Social has not yet been approved for distribution on Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google Play Store due to insufficient content moderation, according to a Google spokesperson on Tuesday.

Google said it has expressed concerns to Truth Social about violations of its Play Store policies prohibiting content like physical threats and incitement to violence.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"

Apparently, a new and disturbing twist in the Trump classified information sagas: apparently, they found several folders marked classified… but turned out to be empty. I was wondering if this was leverage; that if he was ever to be held to account, he’d threaten to release some top secret documents to enemy nations, but now it looks like he may have already done so.

Trump Told White House Team He Needed to Protect ‘Russiagate’ Documents
Rolling Stone

Quote:IN HIS FINAL days in the White House, Donald Trump told top advisers he needed to preserve certain Russia-related documents to keep his enemies from destroying them.

The documents related to the federal investigation into Russian election meddling and alleged collusion with Trump’s campaign. At the end of his presidency, Trump and his team pushed to declassify these so-called “Russiagate” documents, believing they would expose a “Deep State” plot against him.

According to a person with direct knowledge of the situation and another source briefed on the matter, Trump told several people working in and outside the White House that he was concerned Joe Biden’s incoming administration — or the “Deep State” — would supposedly “shred,” bury, or destroy “the evidence” that Trump was somehow wronged.

Trump’s concern about preserving the Russia-related material is newly relevant after an FBI search turned up a trove of government documents at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

Since the search, Trump has refused to say which classified government papers and top-secret documents he had at Mar-a-Lago and what was the FBI had seized. (Trump considers the documents “mine” and has directed his lawyers to make that widely-panned argument in court.)

Republicans dodge national security implications of Trump having classified documents at Mar-a-Lago
CNN

Quote:Republican defenders of Donald Trump won't or can't answer the questions that are at the root of the intrigue over why classified documents were at Mar-a-Lago and the troubling question of whether national security was put at risk.

The fact that top Senate Republicans are continuing to downplay Trump even having the documents, in favor of casting doubt on the conduct of the Justice Department and FBI, speaks to his enduring clout in the party, regardless of the depth of his legal issues and the potential national security implications for the country.

What they seem to be missing is that it doesn't matter - even a little bit - WHY he had these documents in his possession. Whether he planned to sell them or use them for political clout or put them into fancy frames as wall art - none of that matters. The Presidential Records act makes it a crime for him to simply have these things.

When you hear the conservative MAGAts offering various justifications for Trump moving sensitive material from the White House to Mar-a-Lago, it's an attempt at distraction, nothing more.

No, but demonstrating a motive goes a long way toward convincing a jury that he was actively involved in bringing them to Mar-a-lago and had that intent.

Possibly, but I can easily imagine a judge enjoining the jury from considering motive, since the law under which he would (hopefully) be indicted and tried says nothing about motive.

Motive usually counts as circumstantial evidence and so I doubt it would be excluded. Especially since it goes to intent.

That’s fair.
