You asked about the dark, that's where non believers live and will stay until judgement. At Judgement those in the dark will be before the omniscient, omnipotent God of creation who is judge of all mankind, this is the light and this is the time they will have to tell God how they're going to hurt Him, yes while facing the eternal punishment this will be their time to make that punishment even worse. But then if you're to remain in the dark this want have any meaning until the day of Judgement. It is your choice after all.
