We are born default atheists. We learn about the concept of God, and until we've finished understanding what God means and evaluating the "evidence", we're cognitive atheists. (Yes, these are terms I made up.) By the point that we've understood exactly what people are talking about and why it may be true (not sure I've even reached that point... ) then a belief can be formed so you could become a theist. This is the earliest point it can be achieved.
I don't know why I said all that. Showing that atheism is the natural position until someone fucks with you, I suppose.
