I believe that the small consciousness in animals goes towards the bigger human consciousness.
A dog will turn into an ape and an ape into a human being with the due exceptions.
A dog that live next to a human being may bypass the ape stage and turn into human into the next life.

This is the problem. The truth does not depend on who you talk to. It's just the particular unsubstantiated speculation that depends on who you talk to.
I follow a line in tune with a scientific approach.
1) Consciousness is not matter that can be killed.
2) Science show us that the small merge into the big.
3) The flow of consciousness of small creatures flow into bigger one as demonstrated by the cells in food
that determine our behaviour in the good or in the bad.
4) There is no evidence that the consciousness die when the body die.
In fact there is evidence on the contrary as experienced by thousand of NDEs experiences.
To summarize my believes are more in line with the flow of nature than those of mainstream atheism in which you die when your body die.
