I think we do need to accept some things. Whenever most of use hear "Praise Jesus" in public we may find it irritating, but we are unlikely to bat an eye. Whenever many of us hear Allahu Akbar, we bat an eye, most usually while shitting ourselves in fear. Whether rational or not, the fear is real, and we will have to deal with it. Pretending people don't have a right to be afraid doesn't fix the problem.
I would more generally advocate that one only leave one entrance into their mind(reason), and keep the rest of it rather closed, as it is one hell of a lot easier to shovel shit in than it is to get it out.
